So HIS has an overclocked 1gb 4870 for $300 on Newegg, the same price as the other, non OC'd 4870's, with a 30mhz faster clock speed.

I was wondering if anyone had any experience with this card, and if I should go for it over a normal 1gb 4870, or if its more prone to failure or HIS is a bunk outfit? I really have no experience with them

(also in case its an issue, fan noise doesn't bother me, I ran a case with 5 Volcano 9 fans that sounded like a jet for 4 years)

-thanks!

I don't see an overclocked 1 GB version, just the overclocked 512 MB one. Got a link?

HIS does make heavily overclocked models...
But they have to stand by them and make sure they work, otherwise can you imagine what everyone would do?
If EVGA made ATi cards, I'm sure they would overclock them too.

I think Vaktathi got his links messed up.

I see a normal HIS 4870 512MB for $270 and then a HIS O/C 4870 512MB for $300

There is a HIS 4870 1GB card (I bought one) but it's at normal clocks for $300.

The card is slightly faster the the Visiontek 4870 512MB I had before, smoother in game and is actually quieter.

Ha Ha yeah I always update my sig well before I get the parts I've ordered I have no patience I guess I'll be gaming at 1680x1050. I just got it now here at my work. It will be about another 4 hours before I'm home. Still don't know weather to try the 8.10 beta's or just go with the 8.9 official ones. I've heard good things about the 8.10's

Zod you should try the 8.10 betas they are really good. I have:

Shuttle SD39P2
E6600 @ 3Ghz
4GB Ram
HIS 4870 1GB
Windows XP Pro

and the drivers were much smoother in games for me, along with slight increase in fps as well. This is gaming at 1920x1200 on my Dell 24" monitor.
