yeah I did get it but it was 1.30am so i was a bit tried and didn't comment on it..sorry..the way old V8 fords are disappearing in Australia you could almost be right.
Big bopper to March hair...we have a cop killer

My babys at the Dyno right now finishing it's run in and final tune (mainly rejetting the carb to suit the lumpy cam) and then it's off to the muffler shop to quieten the old girl down a bit..it does sound sweet but it's a bit hard on the ears.
And then to dig up the funds to put a some paint on it(it's in primer at the moment)

Today I got to turn the key, after afew little adjustment with the dizzy and carb it settled down to a nice idle, we had good oil pressure and everything seems ok, the first test drive was insane, after a few gentle labs around the block just to run things in a bit, I gave it a foot full coming through an intersection, GOD DAMN it lit the tyres in 3rd gear for 15 metres and then shoot off down the road...the whole time my heart was racing and i was thinking what a beast, we still have some more running in to do on a dyna tommorrow but we estimate the engine has about 450hp...and it feels like it that was the most awesome experience I have ever had..and i have been in some powerful cars before but this was insane, it would pull like a rocket even in 4th...I can't wait to finish it

Sucks that you have such poor traction. It would be nice to be able to put that power to the ground.

only having the standard 14x6inch rims fitted with 215x65 tyres is the problem, once I put the 15x10inch chrome 12 slotter rims and 285x50 tyres on the back it should hook up a lot better, the front will cope 15x8 with 235x50 tyres it should look pretty meaty.

yes you are right but we are all metric here so the badges on the side read 5.8 not 351 high performance, like earlier GT's did. although calling it 5.8litre or 351 isn't entirely correct either..my little secret

This story reminded me when I took auto shop back in 1990. I took a 79 pontiac GP riped the v-6 out of there and dumped in a 455 olds super rocket in it. Had no exhaust straight out the header and the day after I was taking it back to school my friend with a 73 Nova with a 327 vette motor boared over with all kinds of money in it got smoked by my $100 beater. And that was by far my fastest car so I can relate the feeling. It is such a rush
Good luck to you and cannot wait to see some pic/video

BTW wernt you the guy bashing american made cars yet you dumped in an american 351 motor in there and now you're bragging about the raw american horsepower?

Sorry I had to kick that in there

There are many many views on engine break in from beat the crap out of it from the start to driving like a wuss. Beating the crap out of a car from the start won't cause the oil pump shaft to seize. If it seized it would have seized anyway.

You are only half right..the Aussie cleveland is based on the US variant but it is locally cast and due to this is a very different engine when compared to the US clevo.
the main difference are in the casting around the bores and mains which are a lot heavier in the Aussie version, because of this the US crank needs to be machined to suit the aussie block, the Aussie version also used a higer volume oil pump than US models and had a different Sump.
the second thing is that the aussie cars only used the "OVERKILL" US 4V heads on the GT models, most Aussie clevo's are fitted with 2V heads. the Australian D-Block was the prefered engine for a lot of Ford NASCAR engine Builders during it's use in NASCAR as it is alot stronger than the US variant.
My engine is an Aussie D-Block running 2V heads fitted with 4V valves. the crank is a 4MA unit that has been stroked 300 thou, the rods are Aussie HEMI 265 6 cylinder rods using decked forged pistions, the bore is 30 thou over..can anybody guess how many cubes that makes?

I dunno. I believe in varying the RPM during breakin, but I wouldn't load it that much until after at least 1,000 miles.

On a pushrod hydraulic lifter V8, you have to start it then run it a 2200 RPM for 15 min, as SOON as you start it. After that, drain oil and filter, fill with mobil 1/ roayl purple/amsoil/redline. And go have fun. Th rings seat perfectly at the 2200 rpm breakin, just remember to use dino oil at first.

well the engine was run in yestaday and with a dyno tune absoluty fvcking hammers, I still gotta take it easy for another 5000 or so Kays till it's 100% run in, but it should be able to handle most punishement from now on. I fitted my mags and fats that I had stashed for safe keeping just to see if it would hookup better..nope, still wheels spins with out any real effort...its gunna be REAL scary in the wet..I can't wait pity my GF is to scared to come for a ride

Doesn't leak a drop of oil, even.

~7.5 liters

Hmm... I wonder if I could shoehorn that into my bus.

There *is* a school of thought that says once the engine warms up to floor it under load.

Honestly, it probably doesn't make a lick of difference one way or the other.

Actually it does... people don't just make up these procedures to give you something to do with your brand new engine. The 2000-3000 RPM for 15-20 minutes is to give it enough RPM to splash oil around on the cam while it develops a wear pattern without putting so much stress on it that you see excessie wear. Spinning it faster or under higher loads will most likely cause galling... spinning it too slow won't get enough oil on the camshaft, and again, most likely cause galling.
That's not to say your engine will blow up if you don't do it... but it could mean the difference between your engine lasting 100,000 miles or 10,000 miles... or the difference between using a quart of oil every few thousand miles vs. using no oil.

My school of thought says spend the extra 20 minutes and do things the right way rather than saying "bah... it should be fine... lets melt some asphalt."

BTW... a magnet on the oil filter, or oil plug is not a bad idea while breaking in an engine.

That's fine for breaking in the rings... I'm referring to the camshaft. All cars that come out of the factory have already had the camshaft broken in... so breaking in the rings is the only thing left to do, and that method may work just fine for that... but not for an engine you just built yourself that hasn't had the cam broken in.
