Strike 1 - Couple months back I bought a chalk marker. I get home open it up ready to make some marks.
Denied Chalk not included. WTF!

Strike 2. Today I run to home depot during my lunch to buy a cordless Dewalt reciprocating saw. A 30 min drive there and back. Get back to my company's parking lot and glance at the box, it has a small circle on it that says battery pack not included. WTF!

Why do they sell incomplete products that make you think they're complete when you buy them?
I'm going to bet the bank that when I open the damn thing up there won't be a saw blade either.
'Saw blade sold separately so we can make you drive your happy ass all the way back and buy the shit that should have been in the box to begin with'.

You need to read the box more carefully. I'll bet it is written on there.

Those battery packs are expensive and these days, this is especially true with contractors who use these tools for a living, many guys have a few battery packs and more tools than batteries. You keep a few batteries lying around and on a charging station and since they can power the entire lineup of tools, you really dont need a unique battery pack per tool.

Regarding the saw blade, there are many different blade types. let the consumer purchase what they exactly need.

At a store that's somewhat geared towards contractors, they probably have options not including the battery due to the aforementioned already got a battery issue if you're a contractor or a tool collector.

Batteries, especially lithium-ions, generally turn to shit after a few years and may permanently die if they go completely empty just form self-discharge. And lithium-ions seem to get recalled every now and then. My higher capacity lithium-ions seem to self-discharge within a month or two. Easier supply chain management to recall just batteries and refresh the supply more frequently.

Poor comparison. Guns include the mags to hold the bullets. I don't expect gun makers to provide the bullets just like I don't expect Dewalt to supply the electrons. But I did expect them to provide something to store them in.

Second rule (not necessarily relevant in this case, but included for completeness): you can't leave a home improvement store without spending a minimum of $50.

If you can't handle rule #1, you should hire a contractor to do your work.

Huh? I have quite a few ryobi and rigid battery tools and I certainly don't want or need a battery to come with each. That would make them unnecessarily expensive

That does seem odd that a power tool would not come with the battery. Especially considering those batteries are typically proprietary so it might be hard to find the exact one you need. Blade I can ALMOST understand but even so they usually have a lower end blade in them. The chalk marker seems odd too, I would expect chalk to come with it. TBH I never even changed the blade in any of my tools, for what I use them they work fine. But contractors will typically put a higher end blade. Carbide tips and all that fancy stuff.

Speaking of power tools I bought a table saw a month ago, there's this job site Dewalt one that goes on sale every now and then and I told myself if it goes on sale I'm buying it... and it went on sale. Very fun tool. I really need to build a shed though, I simply have no room in my garage to work properly with a table saw.

But yeah always double check the box that stuff you need comes with it. Especially if you have to drive that far.

It's not the least bit odd, it makes perfect sense to everyone on Earth except OP and I guess you. The battery packs are proprietary from brand to brand, but interchangeable within a brand. If you have a cordless DeWalt drill with a battery pack and a cordless DeWalt circular saw with a battery pack those batteries can then be used with a reciprocating saw, jig saw and double thrusting dildo. If you need a battery pack you buy one and if you already have one you're not wasting money on duplicates. Why is that difficult to understand? It's the smart way to do things and it makes things easier for the consumer. They're not trying to rip people off, they're intentionally NOT ripping them off.
