I think if they have a picture of the item on the box, the box should be required by law to contain all objects in the picture.

Pisses me off when they sell incomplete stuff and dont make it clear/obvious that its incomplete.

Exactly what I've been preaching. You buy a product you expect it to be complete. I need a saw and I expect it to come with everything to make it work. I shouldn't have to track down the damn battery and the blade. I'm not a contractor I'm a DIYer.

All you assholes that keep saying I have no business buying tools, I just got done building a 12x16 shed with a gable roof. Go fuck yourselves!
I've never hired anyone to do "contractor work" for me. I do it all myself. I'm sure all you little bitches hire a contractor.

Zippy, if you need to scream at people about how smart you are, you're an idiot. Your wife thinks you're an idiot. Everyone here thinks you're an idiot. Just accept it. I don't care what you built, you CAN'T READ. End of story.

Look now, I have to be a mean asshole because a majority off you guys on Anandtech are little pricks with nothing positive to say.

I'm positive that you're a braindead little slug stomping around his desk in impotent fury because everyone here is smarter than you. Take 1/10th of that energy that you're directing into your misplaced anger and channel it into learning to read.

Because someone bought a kit and just wants to complete their collection a little more. That's why Tool only products exist.

Chalk Lines don't come with chalk because some people use/need different colored chalks for their application. So for those, they save the extra $1 and don't waste chalk with a color they don't want. Granted most will be ok with any color.

And there are "bare tools" that don't come with batteries for the already mentioned reasons. I know guys who are not contractors but home DIY'ers and they have over 4 batteries and at least 2 chargers already. If they need a new tool in the same brand, they would rather save the extra $50 and not get a battery they don't need. This is also why people with lots of "pro" tools tend to stick with the same brand. Interchangeability of the batteries between different tools.

In both instances, it is catering to the pro or semi-pro.

And yes, learn to read.

Well, I can cut him some slack, because I've seen a few instances where a store will sell the "bare tool" (what they call a cordless tool with no battery and/or charger included) version of a tool, but they won't carry the full kit. It's not terribly common though. However, if you're looking into tools and such, you should already know about the difference between a kit and a bare tool variant.

Although, it's not common for me to go with a bare tool anyway. The batteries tend to be expensive enough that the difference between the bare tool and the kit isn't much different from the battery's cost. Plus, you normally get another charger, and one thing that I care about, a tool bag/case. The one thing that I haven't really factored into my viewpoint is third-party batteries. I've seen them when looking up some DeWalt tools, and the price is certainly right, but I don't normally like third-party accessories that much.

Also, keep in mind that LiOn/LiPo batteries aren't going to last forever. If you use that drill, oscillating tool, or whatever quite a bit, you may find yourself wanting a "fresher" battery.
No slack. It's Home Depot. They will sell batteries as well.

Oh, I'm terrified. A person too stupid to read is mad at me, whatever shall I do?

What are you going to do, come at me with a chainsaw that won't work because you couldn't understand that it didn't come with gas included?
You're fine. If he can't read a box, I doubt he can hack the forum's web server, track your IP and count to potato.
But if you he does, assume the stance of dominance.

Strike 1 - Couple months back I bought a chalk marker. I get home open it up ready to make some marks.
Denied Chalk not included. WTF!

Strike 2. Today I run to home depot during my lunch to buy a cordless Dewalt reciprocating saw. A 30 min drive there and back. Get back to my company's parking lot and glance at the box, it has a small circle on it that says battery pack not included. WTF!

Why do they sell incomplete products that make you think they're complete when you buy them?
I'm going to bet the bank that when I open the damn thing up there won't be a saw blade either.
'Saw blade sold separately so we can make you drive your happy ass all the way back and buy the shit that should have been in the box to begin with'.

Serious Answer:

They dont force an expensive battery on you when its possible you might already own one.

I have 7 Bosch tools and only 4 batteries. Thats all I need. They charge quickly and last a long time. Probably saved myself over a hundred dollars buying bare tools.

Now that we've had our fun, I guess I'll mention that I somewhat agree with the OP.

Over the 20 years that I purchased and used nearly every cordless tool available I would never consider something that didn't come with its own 2 fresh batteries. I can't remember a tool ever failing, but dozens of batteries did, and the cheapest way to get new batteries was to buy them with a new tool. The whole multiple tools with one battery is a game for suckers.
