I have 2 systems running WIN/ME sharing the internet connection using ICS.
All was working fine with dial up via a modem.
Here's what happened when I removed the modem, and installed a 2ed NIC card connected to an
ADSL modem.

Initially, ADSL worked fine, on the gateway system, and the local network was OK as far as file and
printer sharing, but the client couldn't connect to the internet.

Next, I reconfigured ICS on the gateway system, and at this point the local network died. couldn't
PING in either direction.

Next, I removed ICS from the gateway system via Control Panel/Add remove/Winsetup, and all ICS
entries from the Network Control panel, were also removed.
Still PING dosn't work, and IPCONFIG shows 0.0.0.0 for the local network NIC adapter.

Is there another way to remove ICS ? How do I re-activate my local network ?

You really have to start over. You did right in removing ICS . . . that is "method specific."

With a NIC in each system, you need another piece of equipment to re-establish a LAN and the ADSL together. Unless your ADSL modem is a combo modem/router, you may have to add a router or switch to the chain.

An alternative is two NICs in each computer . . . one for the LAN and the other for ADSL, but that can run into other problems such as IRQ sharing.

The basic network protocol used for ADSL is TCP/IP. The simplest LAN connection is Windows is with NetBeui. ME is pretty good about setting up a network with its Wizard once you have the right hardware in place.

ICS sucks. Get a home router for 50 bucks. No need for a second NIC in anything. No need for buggy PPPoE software. Pretty painless.

Let me narrow down the question. Why isn't my home network working any more ? Shouldn't the two
machines which are connected via a crossover wire, be able to ping each other ?
Is the fact that one system has an additional NIC for ADSL, causing the local LAN to break down ?
