Diamond's approx. 1 mbit HomeFree phone line networking kit is apparently $12.50 at Compgeeks. Comes with two PCI cards that have phone line and 10baseT connections. I dunno if this is a typo or what, but this used to cost 100 bucks when it came out under two years ago. For 12.50 it'd be cool just to play with

Not as hot as that OD deal, but I went ahead and ordered the kit cuz I need to set up a network BAD.. and can't run Cat5 here.. and I'm not going to make it to OD any time soon...

Thanks I was really feeling bad about the OD deal. I couldn't get in on it, This is just what my brother needs. Do you know if it would work with a regular phone line?

It's precisely MADE for regular phone lines. However, it will work even if you have DSL on your line.

dont buy it... i got mine a week ago and it dosen't work... i called and they wont replace it or anything.

One of the cards works, the other dosen't and you get 1 floppy with drivers on it, if your not well versed with networks this will be very difficult for you to set up. The online manuel they have a link to from their site gives no help with reguards to the cards, but are for the software which compgeeks dont give you...

buy at your own risk, mabye you will be more lucky then i was.

i ordered these about two weeks ago and they work okay, file transfer is kind of slow, and it doesn't go from upstairs to downstairs. but otherwise they're fine...and lets me share my internet... darn shipping is like 5 bucks though so it ends up being around 17 or 18 bucks.

puny, if one of the cards didn't work they should be obligated to replace it...they shouldn't be able to get out of it in any way...call them again and bitch like hell...

anyone know if this one allows 2 computers to connect to a 56k POTS internet connection? I'll like to have both computers in the house to be able to use the internet at the same time, but will that work if the network is using the phone line?

And how does this compare to the Linksys Homelink Phoneline Network Kit?

drexvil, yes you can use this to network 56K across phone lines. I would imagine the Linksys and Diamond Home Free work about the same (They both use AMD chipset). If you've got an Office Depot near you check it vigorously for the Linksys 10mbps Homelink Phoneline Networking Kit. They're selling it for $9.88.
