That might have been true of season 2. But the first two episodes of S3 have been complete dogshit. At this point I'm not sure if it's better than ANY other shows on TV. Homeland is living on reputation alone now, if it wasn't for diehards hoping things turn around it would get the axe.

They filmed a few scenes of this season in my office. When we get to Episode 8 and there's a guy talking on a cell phone outside an elevator bank and a meeting in a large boardroom with huge floor to ceiling windows, you guys can know that's where I am almost every day, haha.

They had one season's worth of story that they're now stretching out to a third season, and it isn't working. Season two had a lot of bad parts in it as well. They should have had Brody go through with the attack in season one, and should not have left the Carrie is Crazy story in the forefront.

i agree. or hold off until the end of season two to catch brody and then create some other story arc with that. I was pretty shocked that they caught brody within the first 3 episodes of season 2, and i was thinking "where do they go from here?"

The first season ended with such a whimper that the show never captured the same momentum again. They *should* have had Brody go through with the bombing, that would have set the "this shit is real, anyone can die" mindset that makes Game of Thrones so exciting and worked so well in Breaking Bad. They could have dropped (and they still should drop) the unbearably tedious 'Carrie is crazy' storyline and made the show about tracking down terrorists rather than a bunch of unhappy people dealing with their personal angst every minute of every episode. EVERY decent moment in the show has been in the CIA vs terrorists storyline while every moment devoted to Carrie's mental illness, Dana's teenage bullshit, Saul's wife and anything with Jessica has been unwatchable. And as this season is entirely Carrie is crazy, Dana is a bitch and Jessica is a waste of oxygen arcs the entire show has been bad.

Note to Homeland writers: I never want to see another character talking to a shrink or getting strapped down in a mental hospital. Go catch terrorists, WTF are you idiots doing?

Watched the episodes of season 3 but ended up having minimized to basically background noise. I have no idea what the point of the story is anymore. I enjoyed season 1 except for the ended. I wanted the attack to go off. Season 2 was the annoying Carrie Brody love affair and now with 3 it's going down the same route. Over this show.

Yeah it would've been great if the attack went off. Except I don't know how they could've continued. It would've been a 1 season wonder.

This season has been slow to develop but I'm hoping Saul is about to do something epic. There's been enough hints toward that up to this point

My question is: Does Quinn seem much more sympathetic this season than last? He seemed much more ruthless from what I remember of him in the past. Now he's

defending Carrie to Saul, going to bat for her at her hearing, and feeling bad for collateral damage from the initial assassination.

I agree that crazy Carrie is getting tiring to watch but I still have to say I think Claire Danes does a great job portraying her.

I agree about too much Dana time and that whole subplot showing the effects of Brody's actions on his family is a little too not-part-of-the-whole-CIA-vs-baddies fluff that I could do with much less of it in the future.

My question is: Does Quinn seem much more sympathetic this season than last?

My take on that is - it suddenly dawned on the show writers that there was not a single likeable character anyone wants to see on t.v., of all the bad choices Quinn was the only "salvageable" character to try and be the good guy, and they're laying it on thick.

This show is a great example of a great show going rapidly downhill.

First season was solid, and it's been getting worse since.

I'm pretty disappointed in this season, so far. I'm hopeful that the pointless drama (Dana and Dexter kid, crazy Carrie, Saul being a dick, Quinn growing a conscience) is leading SOMEWHERE. I really hope Showtime didn't let the Dexter writers speak to the Homeland writers; otherwise we're in for an extremely pointless and disappoint season with a bunch of throwaway subplots that go nowhere.

Here are my hopes:
1. Dana is being groomed by Dexter kid to be a terrorist.
2. Saul has a good reason for throwing Carrie under the bus and making her go crazy again - other than just keeping her away from the media.
3. If Saul doesn't have a good reason, Quinn takes him out.
4. Brody becomes radicalized again and teams up with some new people.

I am about two episodes away from abandoning the show. I thought the first season was great, if overrated (Seriously, Damien Lewis deserved an Emmy over Cranston? Come on.), and the first several episodes of the second season were brilliant. After that it just went off the rails and got ridiculous. So far this season is just dull. I think they should probably have pivoted to focusing on Quinn and his black ops world, which is both interesting and mysterious, rather than the Brady family. I'd like to think this will pay off but I don't really trust the people making the show to do that. Apparently most of the top creative people involved with making the show have left or, in one case, died, so it's hard to have much confidence in the stragglers to keep the show alive and compelling.

I remember right before season 2 started they interviewed the people making it, and they were so proud about how many letters they received over Carrie's mental illness. They keep glowing on how everyone said they got it right and how it gave hope to some of those people. I can't help but feel like they've decided to capitalize on that and focus on it. That's why suddenly we have more crazy Carrie (which to me the more she goes bonkers the less believable and interesting a character she is) and now we have Dana having so many issues with life. I'll be giving it one more EP as I saw Brody (SP?) is coming back in it, but honestly if it's not on track with somewhat of a plot I'll start calling it Aftermath as it's all just coasting on what came before.

Tonight's episode was far better than the first two. We're back to a focus on Brody and Carrie with some nice surprises and actual tension/drama instead of a teenage angst love story and Carrie just being nuts.

So far, this season has been awful. The Brody family segments have always been tedious and annoying, but never more than in the first two episodes of this year. What remains has been a reshashed "Carrie has a breakdown" story line.

Genuinely terrible.
