I've played it on the psp twice through, I have two max level chars (warr and wizard). I think I put in like 8 hours a day until I beat it. Its very addictive, if not a bit imbalanced. I wish they would make a sequel. I actually put in the time to unlock every single spell

I think it first came out on DS. I learned about it from the hype Penny-Arcade put into it. I bought it and played it like an addict until i beat it with a warrior. My only real complaint is the difficulty scaling. In the beginning it was obnoxiously difficult as the computer did these crazy special combos to clear the board. Near the my warrior's specials were so strong, the game became too easy.
I wish they balanced the difficulty better so it scaled naturally. I also wished they put more creativity into making the quests so it didnt seem so one dimentional and branched out better into completely different story lines. I'm pretty sure they're making a sequel.

Yeah it came out first on the PSP and DS, I played it on the psp. I agree with the difficulty curve. I think they have spent some effort balancing it for the PC, they already put out a patch with some bug fixes and balance changes for the PC version. The other thing is that the portable editions had a few bugs. On the psp version, your companions do not give you stat bonuses like they should and the game freezes sometimes (anytime you use deathbringer with > 40 red mana or so).

PC version by far. The icons are less detailed due to the smaller screen, and also I think one reviewer complained about how it was easy to confuse two different types of game pieces because their colors were similar. With the PC version you also get patches to fix any bugs or imbalances. I'm not sure if the DS had the same issues as the PSP (it didn't have the companion bug I mentioned earlier, but I think spells like deathbringer are just as imbalanced), but the PC version would be more polished in any case. Its also only 18 bucks on steam

it really is an awesome game, and the quest is actually decently long (easily 30-40 hours not counting side content like capturing all the monsters, unlocking spells, crafting equipment). Have fun being addicted

I have PQ on both my DS and my PC. Awesome, awesome game.

And, added bonus: From what I read on Kotaku today, there's going to be a sequel!

I'm also looking forward to another of their upcoming games, Galactrix. It's going to be similar to PQ in that it's a gem-matching puzzle game...but in outer spaaaaaace!!

Here's the info from their site:

Galactrix is a unique blend of puzzle, rpg and strategy genres, set in a sci-fi world. It might best be described as a match-3 puzzle game, played against an opponent.

The player will spend their time playing simple addictive puzzle games, but unlike regular puzzle games, these are played versus an enemy. The opponent can be another human (in multiplayer) or an AI-controlled enemy.

It has high replay value, either in single or multi-player, with potentially hundreds of hours of play. There will be a strong 2-4 player component, and excellent support for downloadable content. Overlaying all this is an engaging storyline to play through in single-player.

Key Features

-Create a persistent pilot who gains skills and ships as he completes more battles.
-Each enemy you fight will require different tactics.
-Individual battles require only 5-10 minutes of time.
-Experience a conquer-the-galaxy style campaign mode.
-Find new objects to make your pilot and ship all-powerful.
-Trade supplies throughout the galaxy to increase your wealth.
-Meet companions who will join your crew and aid you in battle.
-Take your pilot and ship online against other players.
-Compete for positions on the online high score tables.
-Download new content - ships, items, plans, planets, factions and missions.

It's currently being developed for PC, with plans to port it over to PSP, DS, Live Arcade, and possibly Mac.

Well, I don't know if it's good news or bad, but PQ: Galactrix apparently is not a worthy sequel to CotW. Not getting a lot of love on Metacritic, and GS went as low as 5.5.

It did have a hell of a lot to live up to, and sometimes you just can't make the magic happen twice, especially in a puzzle game. It's not like Tetris2 won over any new fans.

Still, a bit upsetting. Luckily they have another sequel in the pipe called Puzzle Kingdoms, a little closer to the original, so maybe that one will live up to the hype.

Just last night I was leafing through an old PC gamer and came across the review for this game. "this looks interesting" I thought.

And now there's a thread about it. I guess something is telling me to get this game.

FYI - you can get this from Xbox Live if you have a 360 as well. This game is best on the 360 or the computer IMHO. I have played it on the DS and didn't like the interface as much.

Yes, this game is like crack. I played it non-stop for a month or so last year, and I could hear the music even when I wasn't playing the game.

I like it on DS because it's portable
