What was your first horror film?
How old were you when you saw it?
Do you think you should have waited?

I'm trying to get an idea as to how old my own kids should be before they see scary movies and, or horror movies. Do you think a pg-13 movie should be watched only by people that are older then 13? What about horror movies from 30 years ago? What about the old "Bride of Frankenstein"? Too much?

I'm interested in your opinion, so leave an answer.

You need decide based on your kids maturity. I was quite young when I started watching horror films.

Depends on the kids, and their previous exposure I think. For instance mine can watch some PG-13 (Gremlins, Jurassic Park 1 and 2) at home, but I don't think they'd make it in a theatre. If your's can sit glued to a PG-13 @ home w/o blinking an eye, then they'd probably be OK. Sometimes the rating isn't for violence but sexual innuendo, and I don't feel like explaining some of the sex scenes to them at this point.

i remember my first horrow movie. I was 5 or 6, my mom left me at the babysitters. Who just happened to have a few friends over to watch Poltergeist. Now, this is a damned good movie, but lemme tell ya, when your 5 or 6, this is the scariest damned movie in the world. I had nightmares for years from this suck ass movie.

No

My opinion on the rating system is that it is flawed. You as a parents must determine if your child is mature enough to watch certain movies.

Definitely - horror depends on one's persception... it is your brain that plays upon itself when you watch a film w/ so many stimulants.... however, they also associate w/ your norms... see - make Hannibal (if he existed) watch his own film.. I'm sure he'd be quite content w/ looking at it as an autobiography.. have normal people look at it, and if they view cannibalism as horror - then they'd be freaked out.... the first movie that I saw that freaked me out was

EVENT HORIZON

I was 13... scary... should've went to see SPAWN instead

Good thing GOLDENBEAR was w/ me

"The Creature from the black lagoon" at the drive in when I was about 6. My stupid cousins took me to see it. I couldn't go down in the basement at night for years afterward.

The first: A old Dracula movie in B&W. I must have been 7 years old at the time.

My favorite: Exorcist
Second favorite: Dark Night of the Scarecrow
Honerable mention: My Bloody Valentine

my first scary movie was some dumb movie about mummies. If i think about it now it was really crappy but when i was 8.. it scared the crapola out of me. I had to sleep with lights on and the door closed so mummies couldn't get into my room. even now (i'm 20).. i'm not scared .. but i still have to grab onto the sides of the blanket. I dont know how that is goign to help against mummies but it seems necessary.

First horror flick I saw was Nightmare on Elm Street 5 when I was like 3. I don't really remember being scared at the time. The only movie that really scared me was the part in Pet Semetary 2 when the guy gets his nose ripped off. I think I was 7 when I saw that one.
