Nvidia has been laser-etching quads since the middle of life 6800NU/6600, so I doubt these are unlockable.

If anyone still wants this, respond to the thread or pm me. I ended up getting a better card, but I tested that this worked on both dvi inputs and running Oblivion. Didn't think to 3d mark it though.

Not looking to make a profit... just want to sell it for price I paid + insured mail

Edit: sold... sorry for taking so long to update

Great card. Just tossed together my Conroe rig last night. The fan is obnoxious until the the Nvidia drivers throttle it in Windows. After that its all gravy for $140

What a twist as I saw this on hardforum: http://www.msicomputer.com/msiforms2/stolen.asp

Dear Customers,

We have recently found that our VGA cards as below image with green PCB had been stolen during transportation. We also found out that there are some unknown company and person selling those stolen VGA cards on website such as www.woot.com auction. Please be advised that those VGA cards are pilferage and there will be no warranty on those VGA cards. We strongly suggest you not to purchase the aforementioned VGA cards, the real MSI VGA card for channel is using red PCB as below. If you have already purchased such green PCB VGA card, we appreciate if you can inform us with whom you bought it. We are now asking police for help and we apologize for the inconvenience to you.

Thank you for using MSI products.

Note: the difference between (A) the card had been stolen and (B) the card for channel

? the color of PCB
? the design of Fan
? the color of DVI adapter

I don't think it was actually stolen in the sense that someone jacked a truck. The fact that all the green PCB ones are supposedly stolen makes it seem like MSI was making an OEM run or something like that for someone, and that someone didn't end up paying.

Of course it's funnier to think of woot hijacking trucks =p

This kinda thing happens all the time though since it's fairly easy to buy stuff from suppliers on a line of credit even if you're a shaky business that could go bankrupt at any moment, or even just a shell company really.

Remember that guy who ran APEX (that brand of cheap DVD players and TVs and such)? He kept buying from factories in China and he basically never paid most of them towards the end, and just kept finding new factories to make DVD players for him and not paying them either. Of course he ended up getting arrested, and the sheer scale of his fraud was so insane that nobody could have really kept it up forever. But on a smaller scale it's fairly easy to tell MSI that you're a new PC brand or whatever, and that you need a few thousand OEM video cards. Then you just never pay and sell the goods overseas. Or even if you're a legit PC assembler you could fairly easily go bankrupt, and whoever is selling off your assets may or may not realize MSI should get their cards back as they never got payment, etc.

Now that is a "HOT" deal!!

I wonder if WOOT has seen that yet? I don't see any comment on their site.

It seems highly unlikely that the folks at WOOT (which is not an "auction" site) knowingly sold stolen goods. I got one of these from WOOT (hmm, should I be writing that...?), but I also saw a bunch of them for sale on that famous auction site going for around $200.

Actually after reading of the large number of defective cards over at woot I'm starting to wonder if someone jacked a bad batch of cards meant for the crusher, lol. Or even a big old batch of cards that had been returned to MSI and some of them were returned even though they were working but some were probably broken.

Of course then again if you sell 3000 pieces of hardware you'll probably see at least a few dozen broken ones so maybe it's just the broken ones posting. Who knows.

Many seem to have this image that someone from woot ran and hijacked a truck from MSI. I would never think thats the implication but rather, that someone stole them and sold/supplied them to woot and woot just purchased it unknowingly/knowingly and sold it on their website.

I'm assuming this is common practise for woot, they go out and search for people dumping/selling tons of goods a dirt cheap price or someone might even come to them with the goods to sell at a dirt cheap price to dump.

Either way, I don't think MSI is implying that woot stole them, but that they sold them!

While I didn't purchase any of those VGA cards I go to WOOT every night and do remember the sale and one thing that I do remember was that in their sale ad they indicated that they were a pre release card and that none had reached resellers or something to that effect.

everyone please read this article.

Interesting Article.

Micro-Star International, better known as MSI, has recently posted an alert on its website calling attention to a truckload of stolen NVIDIA 7900GS cards.

The stolen GeForce 7900GS cards appear to closely resemble the NVIDIA reference board, with a green PCB, white DVI outputs, and a heatsink covering only the GPU core itself. In contrast, the retail 7900GS has a red PCB, yellow DVI outputs, and a larger heatsink that covers the onboard RAM chips and bears the MSI logo.

In a rather bold accusation, MSI is specifically mentioning the hot-deals website Woot.com, known for its one-day-only web deals. MSI 7900GS cards were sold by Woot.com on August 23, 2006, with the description "This isn?t the full retail package that will hit stores sometime in the near future, nor is it just one piece of an entire PC system; it?s a raw hunk of standalone OEM hardware in a plain white wrapper..."

MSI is requesting that buyers who purchased these cards contact them with information regarding where they were purchased, and also notes that stolen cards do not carry a warranty.

Good morning.

For now, this comment is being made only here in the specific product thread. As more information is gathered, an email will be sent to all Wooters who participated in this deal. There's a good amount of anger and calls to action from our staff with regards to this bizarre attack, but for now I'm going to just jot down and organize the basics for quick understanding to any members checking in:

1. fact: MSI has publicly claimed Woot has sold stolen goods.
2. fact: Woot has not been contacted by MSI or by any legal authority (as of time of this post)
3. fact: MSI is denying warranty on these cards and implying for whatever reason that they are not "real" (Woot offered these as MSI-OEM cards without any MSI warranty implied and a 90 day Woot warranty only.)

Our intial reaction:

Woot of course denies any wrong-doing in this proposed infringement against MSI. We do not believe that any cards transacted were 'stolen merchandise' -- we transact only with reputable manufacturers and vendors. We will of course cooperate fully with any investigation that is called for. Obviously, we feel harm has been done to our reputation with this claim and we reserve all rights to defend ourselves with further action.

To our members, We would like to take advantage of this opportunity to extend a 2 year Woot direct warranty on all purchased OEM-MSI video cards, un-real/imaginary as they may be. Unfortunately, as we do not have the support of MSI for replacement cards, this will continue to be a full refund only warranty from Woot. This has been automatically implemented on your purchase.

We will update here, or via email as necesssary if there is any news.

Thank you for your past and continued support.

One thing is clear after reading this thread; Woot = Low Class. Do business with those jokers at your own risk.
