I'm not sure why you're getting all excited about that. That's common knowledge and nothing new.

just cancel after the six months are up. as far as i know, you aren't locked into any contracts (didn't read anything).

TWC is offering the first six months at $27, you might be able to convince them to go lower...i've had TW for almost two years and have had nary a problem - they're also good about giving out free months when you DO have a problem...

Is there a contract term? Like you gotta sign up for a year to get the rate, but if you cancel earlier there are termination fees?

err i currently have Comcast cable its 3mbps but i am paying the wonderful full price of $57 a month (have my own modem....dont get me started on how they screwed me over with my modem) anyway i got my friend to get it for the first six months and maybe my girlfriend will get it aswell. My friend got free instalation also.........i wonder if theres anyway for me to get in on it.....hmmm it is under my mom's name....what if i were to resubscribe under my name....hmmm....

Edit: Edit: Edit: whopps oh yeah you dont need to go through Dell to get the $19.99 offer (really $23 since you have to rent modem) and theres no contract...although i dont know if its still up but if you get it through Dell they give you a $75 rebate or something (i think its dell store credit)....

ya, comcast is really bad about giving specials to current subscribers.

if you go to DSL for about 2 months, then you qualify for Specials from comcast again.

Actually since there is no contract with comcast you can basically call them and tell them you want the offer. If they say for new subscribers only, tell them that you want to unsubscribe, and then subscribe back, so that technically makes you a new subscriber. Worked for me 20 bux a month for my internet, is not bad.

I'll never switch over to Comcast with my current setup with SBC. $45 for 6.0mbps download and 608 upload? No way Comcast will offer me a better deal.

How can you get speakeasy for $60 a month? On their site I see first three months at 19.99, then after that its 99.99. I'd gladly pay $60 a month for 6/768, but $99 is starting to get too expensive.

Amen brother. I got the same
Plus comcast has those invisible bandwidth caps where they send out warning letters and cut off your service if you download too many gigabytes in a month.

This promotion was around February and March. SBC was trying out their new 6.0Mbps service. But when people upgraded to the 1.5Mbp-3.0Mbps service, SBC added us automatically to the new 6.0 Mbps service for free. Now for those that got in on the deal, they get to keep the 6.0mbps forever as long as they stay with SBC. Unless someone else offers a better plan with a better price, I will stick with this plan forever...and even if I move from my college address, I'll just transfer the account.

I've had Comcast for a year. You'd think they would give current customers a deal now and then. That's where the SBC commercial came from that shows the new little kids joining a class and getting a new crayon set "because they're new and special" and the other kids are bummed. Older Comcast customers are bummed.

Unless Comcast is really stupid, I'm sure they consider new installs to be by address, not by spouse or roommate name. Might work, might not but I wouldn't count on going that route.

i think you have to be disconnected from Comcast internet service for 60 days to be considered a 'new install'

I live in Atlanta and have been a Comcast cable-internet customer since late January.

This works, I promise.

1. Call Comcast and tell them you're going to cancel your internet to switch over to BellSouth DSL. (You must be specific about which company you will switch to. I just said BellSouth, I'm sure any other provider is sufficient, as long as you sound as if you're going to discontinue Comcast service)

2. Say [insert non-comcast internet provider, i.e BellSouth, SBC, etc] is cheaper, equally fast or faster, and that unless Comcast can provide some kind of recourse (i.e. do better on the monthly price) you will change. At first, the service rep will try to dissuade you, saying that DSL is unreliable, etc, etc. After the rep said she could lower my bill by 3 dollars, I said that wasn't enough and that if THAT was the best they could do, go ahead and cancel my account. She then gave me a deal that "only new customers are supposed to get," which turns out to be 19.95/month until the end of this year.

As a result, my bill is 25 dollars cheaper; however, the rep said that for next year I will not be able to qualify for any new offers or something. We will see about that!
