In the September Issue of "Costco Connection" D-Link AirPlus 2.4 GHz Wireless Router and Cardbus Adapter Kit for Laptop PCs (DI-614+/DWL-650+) at $30 off. It's on their site for $179.99(which is before $30 off). I also checked on D-Link website and saw that there's a $20 rebate for this combination making the total price for this package = $129.99?

At CompUSA: NetGear wireless router (MR314) for $150 ($30 off the original price) and you get the pcmcia Wireless adapter (MA401) for free! ($90-$60 instant rebate-$30 mail in rebate)
I think Amazon had a one day only sale on this router for $120-$20 mail in rebate on Friday.

The D-link router and card looks cool in it's aluminum like casing, but I've just used the Netgear stuff before and they performed solid. I just installed the router and the card in my laptop and it's soooo cool! Nothing beats surfing the web while you're dropping bombs on the toilet! hehe. Anyone know if one of the router/card combo is better than the other? This is sooo cool since my business school utilizes wireless networking capabilities! No more lugging around a 15' cat 5 cable in my laptop case.

Dude! Paragraphs are your friends!!

I stopped reading after the 3rd sentence. The train of thought just hurt my head.

I think I will go lay down now.....

Edit: Stupid mistake due to head pain.....

If it says Netgear wireless ADAPTER it probably does not mean wireless pcmcia CARD. ..

The Costco deal would be awesome if you could tell us more about the $30 and $20 off rebates!

Thanks

Youre a trooper. I got to the second sentence and gave up once i noticed how long and rambling the post is. But for whatever reasons i still decided to respond. What a strange world we live in...

Edit:
Okay. I felt bad for jumping to the conclusion that a junior member with a thread title like this probably has nothing worthwhile to read. So i sat still and read it. TWICE! Talk about a marathon with no finish line... Yow. I guess the lesson to be learned here is that you can always judge a book by its cover.

Yeah a lot of stuff to wade through. Anyhow, you may not want to compare the Dlink AirPlus hardware with the Netgear wirless hardware.

Dlink uses the new Texas Instraments 802.11b chip that allows transmition up to a theoretical 22 Mb/s (I assume using some form of data compressions) where as standard 802.11b hardware (found in the Netgear equipment you are talking about) only runs up to 11 Mb/s in theory.

In real world practice, a lot of reviwers found that the AirPlus hardware does indeed improve in speed not only among other AirPlus adapters, but also among older 802.11b cards. Read this for more information.

I saw the adds and the prices for the Dlink equipment looks really good.

It is the Wireless pcmcia CARD...I bought it earlier today. I'm not too sure about the Costco Deal. It just says $30 off in the ad. Check www.costco.com, and also http://www.dlink.com/rebates/Pdfs/back_to_school2_MIR_0802.pdf for the rebate.

yeah...I just noticed the 11Mbps for the Netgear vs. 22Mbps for the D-link. I guess I should have gone with the D-link stuff? I suppose I can still return the Netgear items back to CompUSA and still buy the D-link. Would it be that much better though? I have IDSL at home which is only 144k Up and Download, so I'm guessing that I won't fully utilze the 11Mbps of the Netgear router/card combo.
