Just got a couple of philips marathon bulbs for 30% off and a shower massager for $5(50% off)

the bulbs are pretty sweet. I am using the 23w that works like a 90w and it really does the trick... I am wondering if they will go down even more wednesday when target marks down their mrkdowns.

sorry if i am repeating what someone else already found, i just figure you cant got wrong with these bulbs

oh yea, this is at the Christiansburg va store

Yes they are compact florecents, but Id stay away from the marathon bulbs. Ive had several and the best one lasted only 3 months. My GE bulbs seem to be much better quality. Ive had some that are still working after 6 years (probably longer than that) with regular use! Ill pay more for a GE any day.Walmart and Target carry the GE's in my area.

i'll have to give those GE's a shot, i had good luck with them in the past, so it's worth a few xtra bucks for me

I just bought the mini CFs 15w/60w @$5 each. They fit in smaller spaces like the ceiling fan light.

Mini CFs are nice. Wish that GE made a nice-looking dimmable mini CF that I could put in my ceiling fans. I like using the dimmer.

Home Depot sells the Philips and another brand (Power ???). They do carry a dimmable one (23/90 I think).

I just started using these CF lamps and have a few comments.

1) Some don't fire up instantly - takes a few seconds to come on.
2) They don't reach full brightness right away - takes about 5 to 10 minutes. (especially in cool/cold places like a garage / basement)
3) They come in 3 different whitenesses (check bulbs.com). Most B&M stores only carry the lowest color temperature (2700?)
4) Even on sale, these bulbs are quite expensive compared to incandescent bulbs.
5) The savings comes from energy saved, not the cost of the bulb (life expectancy)
6) The larger wattage CF's are quite large in size.

have you purchase any from here? are they bright white or kinda yellow? i'm wondering will these fit in my bedroom lighting fixtures, because there is not a lot of room between the light fixtures and the cover.

Philips does make a dimmable CF, but they're either too big for a ceiling fan or they cost nearly $20-$30 each.

I've found that the off-brands of CFs(Lights of America, etc.) aren't as good as the name brands(GE, Sylvania, etc.). The off-brands have funny colors and they don't brighten up as fast.

I also picked up some of these at a local PA target, 4 for around $11, which I think is a great deal for CFL's. It's cool, because my Biology professor has been stressing how good they are and how they'll last for years. I have one above my desk and it works great, comes on right away. The crappy one in the ceiling that the school provides, yeah, that takes a bit to turn on.

bump for the environment

We need another one of the homedepot 40% off clearance sales to come along (anyone know if there is one imminent?) coz they always have a bunch of CFs on sale.

Fingers crossed.

I have them just about everywhere in my house now - I especially like them in my PC room as they don't give off anywhere near as much heat as teh halogen or incandescent bulbs . . . important when you have three processors running!
