Yeah, how does this compare to the X2 3800+ at roughly the same price? My guess is the Opetron is a much nicer chip (by design and 1mb cache per core) but the X2 probably overclocks more nicely.

That's my guess.

the 3800 has 512mb of L2 Cache while the Opteron 170 has 1mb so you'll get more performance right out of the box when comparing the two. The Opterons have been killer overclockers too and are built to a higher standard than the X2s since they're geared towards the server market.

wow, looks like they raised the price for their "24 hour sale" On the bright side, the 165 dropped to 299.

Yep, they raised their price on the 170. If I would ahve seen the 165 for $300, I would have bought that instead.

Got mine. 5030 stepping... I think a lot of people are after this stepping, eventhough I may not do overclocking, but who knows.
Didn't try it yet, don't have a motherboard.
Comes in a most simple package ever, wrapped with air bags, inside a simple clear plastic case. At first I though I got scammed lol. Serials work out though, I get it that there is an advantage of buying an OEM, a little less then hundred bucks difference.

Also, What's the story with warranty on this item. I've been told by monarch it only has 60 day warranty, and I thought AMD oem have 1 year, didn't get any paper work, so I guess it's 60 days warranty.

I looked everywhere on monarch and only saw the 165 for $300. I didn't see the 170 for $365 anywhere. Is this even a real deal?

You're right, they took it off. They had it just a day or two ago.
Strange, why was it taken off and not kept with out of stock status?

they ran out....I may have gotten the last oem from them..most recent stepping has 0546 xpmw...I was hoping to get 0530 but doubt..I ordered this tues and canceled but they shipped anyway...I have a rma refund pending...

Not sure what kind of box you've got.
But mine came in a simple clear plastic cover, almost the same size as CPU,
with a clear tape. over it, I looked at CPU, it seems prefectly intact.
If yours is the same, take clear tape off, look at CPU, put clear tape back on, if needed.
If your package is different, chances are you've gotten a different stepping.
