Most major media companies are headquartered in New York - conservatives would happily weaponize this law.

Let them! What’s the worst that can happen? Media companies suddenly become ultra careful about the information they are giving out? Sounds like a win.

It sounds like powerful people will censor critical media into oblivion.

If we let the government start banning channels that are considered 'propaganda' or 'lies' what do you think Trump or DeSantis would do with that power?

This is why I support watermarking all of their broadcasts with a stamp that reminds whoever is watching, that what they are seeing right now is blatant, indefensible lies.

Let them broadcast and lie, just let all broadcasters know that their viewers will be informed that they are swallowing lies.

Or like, run a chyron that details all of Hannity or Carlson's or Trump's, et al's indiscretions, crimes, fines, rapes and such, as their gums flap.

The FCC regulates transmissions that use public property (the airwaves are considered public). They just don't have the authority to govern what people say on private networks for the most part.

Since we cannot get the "Internet" regarded as a utility, I don't think the FCC is all too powerful.

What should happen though is if you call your self a "NEWS Organization" then you must abide by regulations, such as the "fairness doctrine" that got wiped up the ass of Citizen's United.
If you are a News Org, then you should have some regulations on you. IF you are an entertainment Org, then you CANNOT label yourself as NEWS.

Not too much regulation there, you are either News or Entertainment. If you are News, you must report with Integrity, and truth.

Such a regulation would simply convert Fox News into Fox Entertainment, or Tabloid status.

Journalistic integrity has long since flown the coup. As we all know from Tech sites such as Anand, and others. It's all YouTube SHIT now.

Meh they’d just call themselves FOX

Fairness doctrine didn’t mean equal treatment it just mean equal coverage. They are free to beat the shit out of any Politician who shows up asking for fair airtime.

I don't disagree with your assessment, although regulation to keep them from calling them "News" and "Fair and Balanced" would help.
Make them call themselves Fox Entertainment.

Boycott fox all you want but as long as they collect fees from cable subscribers who watches the channel or not, then they will never change their spread of false information.
Problem is, they are in most of all the basic cable, satellite packages, where you have to pay more for better news sources. this has been the case for at minimum, 2015

How? You can make the loser pay all court and lawyer fees. I’m sure there are other ways to ensure that this isn’t abused by people with power and money. Hell, you could make it so that only individuals and not businesses or for profit/non profit entities can sue, only American citizens.

Fox has already stated that they are not a news organization. Besides, propaganda still works regardless of how one identifies, such as news organization or a media company.

Not only that but you also have Sinclair who owns and operates a large portion of local stations around the country.

The solution is obvious and has been staring us in the face for months.

We don’t need government controlling the truth, simply enact a law similar to what Texas passed regarding abortions. Give citizens the power to sue media companies for reporting false information.
The courts would be overrun with lawsuits. Not gonna happen. Alternative facts and all. Freedom is a thing but in most people's minds it's a seed at best.

If the loser pays all fees then nobody will do it because any person who sues and loses will be bankrupted by a big media company.

This is pure stupidity.

I wasn't able to finish watching that last hearing as I had to leave on a trip. Just saw that Josh Hawley footage. LOL Isn't Hawley one of these guys who talks obsessively about how the left is attacking "masculinity?" In fact, he has a book coming out soon on that very subject! I think that book will require an addendum where he carefully lays out important exceptions, like how its OK to run like a pussy bitch when crowds you helped incite get out of control. It's important to clarify that you can do that and still be a manly man.

Well, that's true for people who accept the cable box. I told Comcast to pound sand, no interest in subsidizing horrible things like Fox or the NFL over here. Laughed in the guys face when he tried to lie to me about needing the cable box no matter what. Told him I appreciated that humor, that the recording I made of our call will not go to waste, suddenly I had a modem on the way and no issues whatsoever. We watch everything we want over the web, and I very much like not having to pay for hundreds of channels I have no interest in receiving. Keeping money away from the likes of Fox and Disney still brings a smile to my face.

I had something similar with fios TV. Sure the base rate was fine.
Box fee sucked with no option to buy
Local content & sports/espn fee were outrageous. When I asked if I could drop music/local/sports content since I don’t need them I was told “nope”
Those fees were around $20-something per month plus another $15 for ONE box.

Oh look, right wing media trying to stick up for the traitorous Josh Hawley. This show these pious righties don't know jack about the Constitution just use it as a shield. Kinda of like evangelicals cherry-pick what they want from the bible to justify their bad behavior.
Josh Hawley's Humiliation by Jan. 6 Committee 'Unconstitutional'—Mark Levin (msn.com)
lol - 'Congress lacks the power to be mean to people because the power to be mean is not enumerated in the Constitution' is one of my favorite ones yet.
