Labros Hydras, a 49-year-old mechanical engineer from Washington, D.C., was snorkeling in Greece when he saw a six-legged octopus at Papa Nero beach on the Pelion peninsula, according to the United Kingdom's South West News Service.

He pulled the creature from the water and smashed it against a rock to kill it. When he took it to a local tavern to be cooked, the chef refused. Hydras then fried it up on his own, eating it with a slice of tomato and lemon, before he researched and discovered the octopus was actually an extremely rare, six-limbed hexapus.

finds rare animal, first instinct is to put it in his belly.
now he feels bad and wants to start an awareness campaign...

isn't this basically american foreign policy?

zomg, some odd unknown creature. Must kill and eat!

This is pretty much the way of thinking that has caused lot of animals to be extinct, sadly.

No evidence that it was some rare different species. Just a genetic variation/mutation in a highly prevalent species, like a white buffalo or deer.

that is the most likely explanation but we'll never know why that thing only had six limbs if 'muricans keep eating them

man: "was that a dodo bird, I thought those were extinct!"
'murican: "I dunno, but it's doodoo now"

I'm Greek and let me tell you something: not only do we eat kalamari (squid, fairly intelligent), but if chtapodi (octopus) were caught, that sucker is getting sta karvouna'd.

Except for me. I hate squid.

Muricans are almost as completely dependent upon the commercial food supply as most any other developed nation, and more removed from subsistence living than at least two or three billion other persons in the world. Subsistence living = I found it, I eat it. IOW, there's a couple billion other people around the world doing "I found it, I eat it", not just Muricans.

So muricans can't count to six? That's sad. This is one of the posts from the category "I don't want to live on this planet anymore".

I don't usually defend America in the stupid stuff we do, but we are not even close to the worst country when it comes to mowing through animals. The Japanese are going through tuna and whale at an alarming rate. Not just those either, they are eat anything from the ocean outside of rocks.

"But now, Mr. Hydras, a Greek born mechanical engineer..."

"..snorkelling off Papa Nero beach on Pelion peninsula..."

Seems like a Euro-problem to me.

meh.

I don't fault the guy from not knowing it was a rare species. i doubt many in this thread bitching about it did. I don't fault him for fallowing local custom either. I'm kinda amazed he did.

if there's one thing I know, it's that only Americans kill animals and drive them into extinction.

What the fuck does this have to do with America? Do some of you wannabe animal activist hippies know an "extremely rare, do not eat me" animal on sight? I'm betting on no.
