How do i fix it?

I have an Asus CDRW5232AS (CD RW drive) and an Asus E616-P2 (DVD Drive). When i have a CD in the CD RW drive i can't watch a DVD (video only, ROMs are fine) that's in the DVD drive. It doesn't matter how the drives are connected. Also, when there is a CD in the CD RW drive the Read light is constantly on. When i do try and watch a DVD (with a CD in the other drive) the read light on the DVD drive doesn't flash at all. CD-RW drive is in DMA Mode 2 (ATA 33), DVD drive is in DMA mode 6 (ATA 100). Any idea what's causing this?

are they both on the same IDE cable and both set to master.....

When installing the Nvidia driver set - did you install the Nvidia IDE driver?

If so, I suggest that may be your problem.

You can go to device manager, select 'Standard Dual Channel PCI IDE Driver', double-click it and select driver tab. Try 'Rollback' first - it should show the standard MS driver as the only choice. If it's not there, try 'Update' - refusing all MS assistance or searches, insisting on manual selection - the standard MS IDE driver should be listed about 3 layers into the menu. Select it, OK.

If that doesn't cure the problem - I think it will - you can simply re-install the Nvidia IDE driver (rollback, update or over-write with Nvidia driver install).

Is the DVD player software configgered to specifically use the DVD drive's drive letter? If so, do you also mean that the DVD drive cannot be accessed through the file system at all (explorer) when there is a CD in the CD-RW drive?

Changing back to the MS IDE drivers worked, or at least i think it did, this is the third time i've thought it's been fixed only to find out 5mins into a DVD that it is still not working. Thankyou
