I've got this stuff growing in places in my lawn. What is it and how do I kill it?

The little 3 leafed plant is clover. if you find one with 4, it's lucky. As for killing it, look for a weed killer that won't harm your grass. Once the clover is gone, make sure to plant new grass in its place.

This. It'll take some weed killer as well as overseeding to kill it and keep it from coming back.

I like the purple ones. I have a few patches myself. I'd let it go. Monocultures are bad.

It could also be oxalis, which looks very similar to clover, but is not as nice in your yard and more invasive. It's tough to get rid of; you can find a weed killer specifically for it at Home Depot/Lowe's.

Clover is generally a sign of low nitrogen in the soil. Add some high-nitrogen fertilizer (big first number). Make sure to provide lots of water as adding nitrogen in dry sunny weather without water is bad for the grass.

The best way to get rid of it is to make the grass choke it out by making the grass stronger. Nitrogen = less attractive environment for the clover, more attractive environment for the grass.

I see people in my neighborhood with very shitty lawns because they mow too low. I mow at the second highest setting on my mower and my grass is consistantly better than anyone else's on my street.

yep, only downside is you may have to mow a little bit more often then them

It's not clover.

Weed killers do little against it. As has been said, making the environment more friendly to grass will help. Pull it all out and sprinkle some grass seed around the affected areas.

Pulling it all out by hand is not all that hard. Don't be such a pussy.
