How do i use Tracert's?

I want to run one of these and then spend it to my cable provided. How do i send them the results and what do i get the tracert to ping? what website?

Ok, let's say you're at the root of your c: drive in dos:
Do the following commands:

C:\> tracert www.website.com > tracert.txt

Now the output will be in a text file named tracert.txt in your C: drive. Just copy and paste it wherever you want, like e-mail or whatever.

Make sure to replace www.website.com with whatever site you want to traceroute. I don't know what site to traceroute. Did they tell you one specifically? If not, just try www.microsoft.com or something..anything..

run tracert at a DOS window of course. you don't have to boot to DOS or anything =)

the obvious thing is to select your favorite website. or maybe you should ask.

I did this not too long ago myself. I did a traceroute to my isp's web page so it is something within the network.

Then the tech actually asked for another one outside the network. Just do one to a major site such as yahoo, or msn, or whatever. Good Luck.

can't tracert all the way to msn.com. at some point before the actual box its firewalled and it doesn't allow you to see where its going. www.yahoo.com is real good one though.

Or you could use a real tracer program like NeoTrace or VisualRoute. I've used them and they're pretty cool.
