According to the Starbucks method, you need great beans, great water, and right proportions. Get some medium-bodied beans like Columbia Supremo or Kenya. Grind the beans right before brewing for maximum freshness. If you're using a press or drip it's usually one tsp/4oz H2O, varied depending on your taste. The ground coffee for press should be coarse, with little fine powder, whereas the grind for drip is more smooth, with less coarseness. Never use tap water. Use bottled or filtered water. For a press, wait until the water reaches a boil, then pour directly in, and set a timer for four minutes. For drip, try to use a gold filter as those tend to have better results than paper filters. Do all these things right, and you'll have great coffee to add cream/sugar, according to your tastes.
