accordng to Websters and Dictionary.com it is pronouncable either way and acceptable. Who cares though as long as everyone can understand you which is the purpose of grammar and communication in the first place.

Dictionaries say there are three acceptable pronunciations.

1) A hard 'A' sound as in the word 'pay'.
2) A medium 'A' sound as in the word 'pat'.
3) A soft 'A' sound as in the word 'father'. I honestly don't think many people use this third acceptable version.

Thus, use whatever you want. I interchange #1 and #2 since I just keep hearing either version.
