how fast are usb2 harddrive enclosures?

I was thinking of getting one like this

and I know usb2 has theoretical speed of 60mB/s so if it can do even 50% that would be sufficient

I think their alright. i used one at my job when copying huge amounts of data. It works ok, i never really needed the full speed. However, i've used a firewire one too and they seem to be a little bit faster. Personally I don't think you can go wrong either way.

I use a Bytecc which works fine. I can't say exactly how fast it is but iit's plenty fast enough for backups, which is all I use it for.

My usb2.0 enclosure gets about 18MB/s (7200 rpm drive inside). My FW 400/800 enclosure gets about 35/45 MB/s

i heard its more worth it to get a fireewire pci and get a firewire enclosure, its faster

firewire also doesnt take up as much CPU power when transferring.
