135mph+ in a 98 toyota avalon
I was cruising down I5 CA on my way home from school at around 90mph(not really to fast) and I notice a pack of cars quickly gaining on me. 1 mustang, 1 beater car, 1 lexus sports car and 1 bmw. So safty in numbers I think, and I hit the ECT power button on the dash and floor it. I begin to pace them the best I can, the Mustang (think it was a 00 GT edition) was in the lead followed closly by lexus. I notice space between the lexus and the beater car (I think a Chevy of some sort, god knows how it kept up) and I inch in between feeling nice and safe, with a fast car in front and in back I just ride with the pack.
We weaved in and out of traffic the lead car making initial moves and if enough room was left the rest of the cars followed. We were going at 120+ for a good hour constantly changing positions vieing for the middle spots but taking our turns as the lead car, nobody ever wanting to be last.
one last move I remeber pretty well (when I hit 135) was when the BMW was in lead postition getting ready to pass an suv via the slow lane. I look ahead to study the traffic to see if there would be room to follow, we were in the fast lane my car in second postion the bmw merging into the slow lane to pass the suv ahead of us. a big rig in the slow lane minding his own business (or messing with us, I was pretty sure the truck drivers were telling each other about a fast pack moving down I5) So the BMW makes a fast break in slow lane swooping in front of the SUV and accelerating hard giving me some room to try as well. So I merge right and just then the SUV decides to change lanes also. I quickly slow and the pack zooms ahead of me. I hit the gear box into 2nd drive and acclerate the best I can (Avalons are suprisingly fast, Camery engines with 6 more HP but only 30 pounds more wieght). I climb a hill and see the pack in the valley below, I floor it.
When I reached the bottom I noticed my engine stalling I guess I hit the governer, the MPH gauge reading a little over 135mph. I got back into the pack but my exit quickly came. Sufficed to say that was the most fun I've had down I5. Extremly dangerous and stupid......but damnit it was fun, and I made a trip that usually takes me 4 hours in a little over 3.
