How high can Palomino 1700+ go?

How high can it go? I'm trying to decide whether its worth it to overclock.

hi,

welcome to AT first of all!

the palomino core will not offer you much in terms of overclockability... maybe 100-200 mhz ... if you're lucky... 300 mhz....

if you are intersted in overclocking, you maybe in interested in purchasing a TBRED 1700+ or 1800+ ... as they are dirt cheap right now and will give you a HUGE performance boost over a non-o/c-ed 1700+ palomino

Post the stepping of the chip. Even if it's 50Mhz gain, it's worth the overclock.

Around 1800 Mhz is where it normally falls apart. I took my XP-1600 Palomino to 10.5 x 166=1743 Mhz, without a hitch, and my XP-1700 Palomino to 1785 10.5 x 170 for 1785Mhz.

They both generated some serious heat at those levels, so be prepared for thermal meltdown, if your heatsink isn't up to par.

palos... its almost not worth bothering. my 2000+ palo wouldn't run at any other speed, my 1800+ tbred hit 2.4ghz on air
