Roommates PC:
80 GB WD

Removable Laptop drive:
30 GB

Grand total of 1336 GB or 1.30 TB (assuming 1024 GB's)
And no, its not all porn. Just about all of it is movies, mp3's and tv shows.

I didn't buy the new big hard drives for the capacity. I buy them for the performance. I use only about 10% of the hard drives I have in all my computers (3 computers. 500+ GB total disk space).

My dream setup for HDs is 4x200Gb HDs. 2x2 Drive stripped, the second set mirroring the first. And probably, when HDs get that big; Another 400Gb HD to mirror all 4.
Then you`d have a HD system thats very fast, and very secure.

but why would you need the speed? RAM speed/volume, maybe... proc speed, absolutely... but hard disk i/o speed?!

yeah, i know you can get a few more MB/sec with raid, etc... but i've been running plain ole' IDE and never had a problem

maybe it's cause i don't game (but i doubt it)

so the general question do you see a (non-gaming) difference with raid?

I have 2x 120gb in my main rig one of the 120's is in a removeable frame and I have a 250 + a 40 in a removable frame in my 2ndary PC I also Have a 30 gig IBM 75 GXP in the same type of frame as my 2 PC's that I use to shuttle large amounts of data back and forth or loan to friends as it's a deathstar drive thats all I find it safe for, so normaly I have 120x2 + 250+40 online all at once and and I either remove a 120 or a 40 when I'm using the 30 gig drive so normaly between my 2 PC's I have 530GB as the HDD manufactures measure it =) I also have a 40gb firewire drive that I use for various stuff, in my main rig I normaly clone my main 120 to the 2nd 120 so I have a 1 week old back up of all my data all the time, I also store my 4gig OS partishion on the 30gb drive in the frame just incase I need to reload.
