My parents charged me $400 a month rent when I was 17.

I still resent that, I pay less now for my house & I have my bedroom, my own bathroom, office area, & a dedicated theater room (well, not really mine but 90% of the equipment is mine) where before I just had my bedroom & a bathroom I shared with my brother.

I pay $1340/month for a 1 bedroom in Brooklyn. It's rent stabilized meaning it can only go up a certain percentage per year (usually 2-3%) except this year when the building got sold & I renewed my lease the new landlord determined that the old landlord wasn't increasing it even as much as allowed and moved the rent halfway between where it was and "legal rent" from $1240 to $1340.

Last week there was a meeting in Manhattan where they were trying to get the amount of rent-stabilized increases (which is apparently over 1 million apartments just in Manhattan) changed from 2% for 1 year lease and 4% for 2 year to 5%/8.5%. You know if that gets approved there the rest of the city is sure to follow

$700 a month for a 2 bedroom, 2 bath, 1000 square foot apartment here in michigan. The big plus is the washer and dryer in the apartment...its pretty average rent around here if you dont want to live in the ghetto

$825, includes only water, 2 bedroom in Abington, MA. I have no idea what the square footage is, but it's pretty roomy.

They are right...location makes everything. I live in fairly large city in the southeast and I rent a 2 bedroom apartment in the nice part of downtown for $635 a month. I will be moving to a two bedroom a couple miles out of downtown for $533, but I will be sharing that with two roomates instead of one (they are sharing a room and paying 2/3...I'm getting a steal here). Anyway, that drops my out of pocket cost to $177 a month...not to shaby...should help me get those school bills out of the way big time.

I pay $569 for a 1225 sq. ft apartment. It's one level, huge kitchen and master bedroom closet. Two full baths and two bedrooms.

This is in East Tennessee. However, my apartment complex is about the cheapest in town. Surprisingly, though, after looking at 20 different places, I liked it the best and thought it was the best deal for the money. I've never regretted it and plan to stay there until I buy a house.
