How much should I charge?

Hey, I'm 16 and my mom's friend had me fix her computer. I replaced the floppy drive, put in a "newer" video card (S3 Trio64V+, newer is a relative term), formatted the hard drive and installed Windows 98. I was wondering how much I should charge for doing this?

Yah, I wouldn't even think about charging someone for this. I'd even feel insulted if they tried to pay me. Maybe let them take you out to dinner or something.

well it's usually about $40 an hour so give her the "friend" discount and say it's only $30 an hour......


so $30 an hour x about 3 hours maybe?? so that's $90 plus gas and time to get there so that's like an extra $10.


Ok, so we're at $100, and now lets throw in the "I'm a greedy retard" bonus package.....


that brings us to $0........yes, your mom's friend won't have to pay you anything sucka, don't be a jerk about it


whatever it cost for new hardware, that's it......maybe if you're lucky she'll hook you up with her daughter and "leave town" for the night

Mom's friend as in like childhood friend? Or like, friend she met from work? A younger friend from work? Friend as in college student who's interning? Hmm... this just gets better and better....

Yea, I'd fix it for free. God knows I've done it before. It gives you some "nice-kid" points. If you're smart about it, she'll ask you to fix other stuff and then other people will ask you too. Then, you can say you're busy and the people who aren't cheapskates and are using you will offer money. Go from there. You can get favors too. Those are usefull later.

I wasn't asking like for labor, more like what do you think it's worth for hardware. I'm asking this because usually when I fix one of our friends computers it is something simple and I am perfectly happy doing it for free, but they always insist on paying me something so I was just wondering what I should say?
