How much should this cost?

Why would you get a camera with a bad CCD? The CCD is the most expensive part of the camera and accounts for much of its value. Further, I just don't see why you'd pay for a high-end photography device to take pictures that, considering the black spots that will appear in all shots, will be worse than a $10 camera.

If you truly want it as a tool to learn to use DSLR's then I'd pay no more than $25 for it

Most of the spots look like dust.
The big one, if its not dirt would make the camera pretty much worthless.

The other spots if its not dirt can be remapped.

You should have taken it to a shop this weekend to see if it was dust/dirt and if it could have been cleaned.

It's the CCD for sure. A Nikon repair shop said it would cost $1,200 to fix it.

I would consider buying it because I don't mind the small blotch that much. If the guy wants $200 for it, I would consider that a fairly good price. I don't know anything about cameras though... so I may be wrong. Judging by the other responses, I am.

If it's really the CCD, what's to stop it from getting worse? I'd be real reluctant to buy that. $100 or $200 at most. You can get a D50, which has better performance in many areas for $600.

Better performance based on whose experiments? Do you have any websites to cite with this information?

The guy said he wants $500 for it. It's got a sigma 55-200mm 1:4-5.6dc lense on it too. The lense is around $140 brand new.

Seems kind of steep to me, I think I'm going to pass. Just figured I would update with the price.

Based on the fact that it a newer camera. Less noise as well as other advancements. The D100 is older technology.

He's out of his mind. $500 is what a D100 is worth in good/excellent condition.

I'd pass. Spend $600 on a D50 kit. You will sacrifice a bit of build quality but will gain better noise performance as well as advantages in some other areas. I'm sure some Nikon users could be more specific; although I'm certain you can find some reviews that will explain.
