I've also noticed it. Seems everyone here is at least 6' tall, makes an average of 150k year, has a supermodel wife, has owned multiple homes by age 30, traveled the world, and has a few year's worth of living expenses in the bank.

Wow, how short are you to display such height envy?

A lot of men tend to exaggerate their height for some reason, so it's not limited to AT. When people ask me how tall I am and I say " 6'0" " they say "No you can't be, you must be taller than that because *I* am 6'0" and you are two inches taller than me."

I know for a fact I'm 6'0", so either they measure themselves with 2 inch heels on or they overestimate their height.

You're especially likely to get nailed if you have a common height that people can judge easily, like 5'6" - 6'. The real tall guys in the NBA B.S. their heights by 2-3 inches in many cases and get away with it, especially since no one expects them to do it being tall already.

I'm short (under 5'8") and while I do wish I were taller, you have to make do with what you have *shrug*

besides, it's easier to curl up into a ball or slouch

Most of you are liars -- typical for AT. Go and get measured without shoes by someone who knows what they are doing.

That's kind of funny. I'm a little over 6'4"... right around 6'4.4" or 6'4.5" But people in my family like to tell people I am 6'5". They won't believe I'm not...

Damn guys, height envy much? The average height is influenced by older guys who grew up in times when proper nutrtition was much less likely and people in general were much shorter. And the US has a lot of immigrants who come from poverty and may have the same short stature due to nutrition as people in the US 50+ years ago, on top of being naturally short in stature due to their native central & south American genetics. Obviously members of a tech forum are going to mostly be young and affluent enough to have benefitted from proper nutrition during adolescence.

this.
Myself I"m 5'8.5", I had probably below-average nutrition growing up.

And a valid point is brought up here, a lot of people measure with shoes, with any shoes I'm a solid 5'10"

Well, you got me there. Still, there may be other factors. Shorter people may simply be less inclined to click & vote in a poll about height.

I am not saying it's wrong if someone near average wants to gain a little extra height, but I think people really need to think this through and weigh the risks and benefits.

If you have the cash and are willing to withstand the pain, by all means go for it. Being short is a huge disadvantage, especially when looking for work.

I hate the fact that I'm 27 and still shorter than both of my parents, who are both over 6' (my mom is 6' even and my dad is like 6'3")... I think I'm either adopted or a genetic freak. not only am I shorter than them, my black-haired, brown-eyed parents managed to produce a son with blond hair and green eyes

Your dad might really not be your dad.

5'10

I'm a good height but not ideal for weightlifting. I'd have to be about 5'3 and 69-77kg shredded but I'd be too small waling about...

I'm 6'2". I'm OK with my height, however, I've always been jealous of the smaller guys advantage with the balance sports. I need bigger waves to shred, takes me longer to snap up on my board. Higher center of gravity is a biatch.
