You have to respect her property whether she's using it to your satisfaction or not.
I see your point... but your point sucks. I mean, what good is the damn thing sitting in a box? Is there some sort of special taste added to a food when you cook something in it for the first time? No.
If they live in an environment where they share things, what, exactly, is the difference?
My point sucks? My point is this: you don't have the right to use someone else's property without permission. It has nothing to do with whether the crockpot will be damaged or "tainted" or anything else. And the fact she already stated she wanted to be the first one to use it isn't even the main point. It's purely about respecting other people's property. Whether anyone else feels it's a waste to leave it in the box is meaningless.
And the fact that so few posters see anything wrong with using it without permission is surprising to me. Bunch of rationalizing just to excuse inappropriate behavior and a lack of respect.
I seriously doubt all the same people would be fine with people using any of their stuff without permission. And don't bother saying that "it's not the same" because it
is the same. You don't take other people's stuff without permission, period, end of story.
