How to get to safe mode

I'm using XP and need to boot to safe mode. When I hit F8 at startup, I only get the option to start windows normally. I know there is a file which can be modified to allow safe mode again. Anyone remember the name of that file?

you need to modify the boot.ini file with a switch that automatically goes into safe mode....here's a link on how to do it....good luck,
