How do you make vista small. I use it only for games and am wondering if there is a way to remove everything i dont need such as media player/internet explorer and pretty much everything but the barebones OS files and DX. I know with past microsoft OS's you could do a custom install is that possible with vista? Im asking because i want to get a SSD to see if they are worth all the hype but want to get only a 60GB and want to fit my vista and linux OS's on it. Thanks.

You can't make Vista small. You can make it moderately sized, but "small" - never.
Unless, obviously, you strip it to the moment when it doesn't work and continue long after it happens. Or have access to it's sources and rewrite it to the point when it's not Vista.

i guess making it as small as my mint 6 install is out of the question eh? lol i dont understand how in linux can fit a whole OS into 4.5GB including a full office suite and photo editor and allthe other apps i have installed which is 30+ and vista is 30GB just the OS.

Vista doesn't take 30gb. It's been awhile since I installed, but it's closer to 15gb.

Vista can be installed in under 3GB with vlite, properly stripped down. That's reasonably small. I installed XP Pro on a 4GB SSD (Dell Mini 9) using just over 2GB of space and I left plenty of stuff in there. It's definitely doable.

Just lol.
OS, whole office suite, photo editor? With a tweaked Linux should be easily doable in under 100 MB.
If 4.5 GB is light for you then it should be achievable even with Vista if you can prevent it from bloating own directory during updates.

i think its the windows updates that bloat windows, my vista partition is taking up 32GB right now with no apps installed onto that partition or any games they are all on a seperate partition, i have already limited the space system restore takes. i will try Vlight soon and see what i can do to shrink it.

Only 14.8 GB here and that is with Windows Vista 64 bit, SP2, and some programs installed.

I think a clean vista install is 10-12GB.
People just forget that vista has feature such as shadow copy and system restore which I have seen take up an additional 20GB.
