How to quit job?

Well I am 16 doing a summer job, its a pretty lax place.

They were desperate for employees so I didnt even have to do an interview, just signed the usual papers. I plan on quitting when I have 2-3 weeks of summer left, so how much notice do I give?

They know your going to quit at the end of the summer though right? You just want to quit long enough to have some time off before you go back to school?

Two weeks. And ask for a letter of recommendation. It looks good with a job application, as it shows that they were happy enough with your work to go to the trouble of writing a letter for you.

OP if they know you're going to quit at the end of the summer (which you probably should have told them when you took the job), I'd tell them now that you're going to leave two weeks earlier than expected. Especially since, well, it sounds like you only plan on working there for about 2 more weeks.

What kind of job is it?
I'm pondering the same question. I work at a warehouse that hires through a temp/staffing agency. Of the batch of people I started with, about 60% of them are gone. Standard methods of quitting are walking out or not showing up anymore. The one supervisor was talking to us about our accuracy problems (putting too many of a certain item on a pallet, staging at the wrong loading door, etc), and he said, "I don't give a f__k about what you think about me. It's my job to make sure that these doors get staged. If you no can do it, I will fire you and get on the phone to the staffing agency and say 'Send me another person.'" So this place I'm at seems accustomed to people leaving without notice.
I'm figuring on 2 days right now. I'm just wary of being stuck with the crap jobs for the rest of the week if they know I'm quitting.

Just let the owner/manager know two weeks before you plan to quit, probably not necessary to write it out it sounds. If it's a job you might want to come back to next summer, don't tell the guy you're "quitting" in two weeks, just say that you need to stop working, and you'll get ahold of him for work during your breaks or next summer.

Just do a 2 week notice or otherwise they can keep your last paycheck or something like that. Some companies are different but some wont tell you that the last week you worked free if you quit abruptly. I doubt you read the piece of paper you signed but just give a two week notice.

WTH did you come up with that?? That (keeping the last paycheck) would land the employer in court in my state, not to mention the additional fines from the dept. of labor.

Haha, yeah. Thats a crock. Employment in most states is at will. You can quit at any time for any reason, and they can fire you at any time for any reason.
