How to save streaming media?

how can i save the avi or asf or whatever file permenantly to my computer from a streaming windows media link? the link file itself contains addressed but they are "mms://" and naturaly nothing can download from non http or ftp sources...
windows media player wont allow me to save it, so how can i? or its illegal? if so, what patch do i need?

I think its cached in the temporary internet folder under windows. Try locating it their and do a copy/paste to some other location. I used to do this a lot but cant really recall the exact location.

I forgot where I found it, but I have a program caled ASFRecorder, haven't had the time to use it. It's only 75kb, so I can send it to you if you want. No viruses, don't worry, I keep my dat files up to date.

Doesn't work that way. When you right click and try to save certain ones, you only get the link... not the file... And some of them gray out the save as feature altogether.

You have to look for the true link to the file in the source of the page.

look in the cache folder in windows directory look for extremely large files or files that have been recently updated
