So, after four long years, I'm finally doing a new build, and I have to say that the single componenet that has me the most pumped is the 64GB G.Skill Falcon SSD (MLC, Indilinx).
I'll be running Vista 64 Home Premium, with 8 GB DDR3 1600. I plan have Vista and the the pagefile on the SSD. I doubt it will ever get used much, and I just hate the idea of spending money on a premium component just so I can boot faster. I want everything to scream.
But, I'll be moving my user profile to a 1TB WD Caviar Black. I'll keep all my media, documents, etc. there. I'll probably also disable indexing on the SSD, as well. I'm leaning towards installing games and apps on the HD, but with 64GB on the SSD, I kind of wonder if I should keep some apps and games there to take advantage of the extra space.
Keep in mind, I don't care if this thing breaks or gets corrupted. By the time it's out of warranty, I wouldn't mind buying a new one. I bought this to erase a bottleneck, not to be scared. In all honesty, I don't even think it will have to work all that hard if only the OS and PF is on the SSD - not with 8GB of memory.
It's been tough trying to find a whole lot of user experience with SSDs, so I wanted to see what you guys thought of all this. What settings do you think would give the best balance of speed and longevity for me?
