How's this for a basic computer?

I shopping for a friend. He doesn't play games. Mostly just surfing and video capture from his camcorder.

I recommend a minimum of 512 meg RAM and a larger hard drive, >80 gig.

For what he needs it for, sounds fine Only thing is he may have to upgrade ram, but that just depends on how intense his capturing is...

If he's gonna run WinXP then he definately wants 512MB of RAM. Since the dfault install easily eats half the 256.

Upgrading the ram is no big deal and I figured he could add a new hard drive later for video editing if he needs it. I don't think you could build it for much less, plus he gets a warranty and tech support. Thanks.
