i have the i believe exactly the same (excecpt the bundled cartridge is half empty) 1018, and yes this is an awesome printer.

hell it even prints under ubuntu. and its absolutel plug and play, paper doesnt curl, the sheet feeder is perfect, and desk layout is such that it uses up about 1/3 less desk space than the brother / samsung slightly cheaper ones

Have this printer at work.....its a POS.

Edit: Crap! I got the model # wrong. It was the HP 1320, not the 1020. So maybe this one is better.

I have one of these at home and other than the lack of Vista support, it has run like a champ for over a year.

I bought one from the Egg about a year ago for around $110 plus shipping.
Arrived DOA and i had to do battle with Newegg for a return, it was on HPs warranty.
Ended up that I had to pay return shipping, from East Coast to West Coast.

Printer works okay, at time the software gets confused between legal size paper and standard letter size.

I owned a half dozen lasers, and the HP 1020 is strickly a home printer, not for business.
Bare bones. nothing to brag about.
For business you need something more substantial and with more features.

I think you can probably find a better deal if you wait. Just two weeks ago I got a Brother laser for $55 after rebate (free ship + no tax at buy.com) and it is faster and has a bigger memory buffer. This deal is not available right now, but keep your eyes open.

One thing I wish I had was network ability. This would make sharing the printer on your home network easier. I guess I can't expect everything for $55.

the 1022 is probably better if you use it for a business. the paper tra on the 1018/1020 is really small, i think it onl holds like 120 sheets. its 260 on the 1022. otherwise they print the same.

to whoever said it sucks, i am not really sure what it could be. it seems to be able to do everything, i print normal sheets, as well as USPS labels with mine and it has never failed me.

i guess i wont be upgrading to vista for yet another reason. it is funny. its not supported in vista, but it runs fine in ubuntu linux. i did nothing but autodetect it with cups and it took maybe 5 seconds to setup.

I bought the 1020 from Newegg last year and so far it's been a great printer. No delay in printing, I've never had a problem with it. For the price I think it's an excellent deal.

Instead of a regular fusor in the back of it, it uses a fusor paper roll. Its extremely fragile. Would never use this for business again, but it may be ok for very low volume at home.

FYI, the best price is actually still at newegg since they have some sort of paypal coupon code you can apply...I'm sure some googling will turn it up =P

we use these all over at work with no problems.

stupid lazy ass people don't like workgroup printers so they all b1tch about getting personal desktop printers.

I find it fast and easy to setup.

these HP printers are nice, heck, I might even replace my old lj4000n with the 1022n and save some major space.

This is a solid printer. I've had mine for about 8 months now and no issues. Fast printing and good quality. It's one of the things keeping me from going to Vista at the moment though. I've got Ultimate sitting on the shelf at home
