I'm sure others have posed the same question, but everyone has specific requirements. Here are mine:

Setup: socket A (xp1700+), Epox 8k7a, no overclock

- triple-clip
- easy installation
- accepts 80mm fan
- under $25 shipped

Recommendations?

http://www.zalman.co.kr/english/product/cnps6000Cu.htm

currently I am using the version of this heatsink without the variable speed fan control. It works very well, is stylish, and nearly silent.

However, your processor may run a little warmer than normal( i running at 150 deg. F with an XP 1900) but this is well within thermal specifications.

I spent 25 dollars on it at FRYs.

Funny you mentioned it, Mimendo. I actually bought a GC69 from svc, b/c it was so cheap and has what I need. However.. it's REALLY difficult to install. The clip is super-stiff, and I need to use two screwdrivers (one to push down, one to push outwards) in order to get the darn thing on. It's quite a task..

Casio.. how easy or difficult is the zalman hsf install? It looks sorta bulky.

Never had that problem with any of the SVC GC68s I have installed.

Its no harder to install than any other heatsink. I replaced a Volcano with it. The only problem i had in my case (enermax cheapo thing) was fan placement, i had to clip it to the hard drive cage.

Overall Id say give it a shot, buy it from a retail store however, if it doesn't fit (its a little large) then you can easily return it.

I own a Zalman (after my stock fan crapped out and my proc nearly leaked out my vents . . . I saved the proc and stuff tho . . . (holy sh*t! 90 deg celsius! RUN!!!))

its easy to install, but a little wierd. The clip goes on easier than a stock amd hsf, but the fan is seperate, and you screw it onto your PCI slots (you know, the one screw you need to hold stuff, you just put it on top of the PCI card's metal back thingy and put the screw through both of them) . . and the fan is a 92 millimeter, so you sdjust it so its over your hsf and it also blows on your mobo or ram, depending on where you put it. Its easy to install, but it takes a bit longer. works better than stock, also.

KDcomputers.com has a couple of the copper-bottomed Taisols for nice prices here.

It isnt the easiest to install, but i wanted to put a vote in for the Alpha 8045. It works great. I am running a vantec steal fan on an 1800+ @ 1668Mhz and my max temp under load is around 46C. That would be lower if I had a fan taht made a little more noise.

I just picked up a Glacialtech Igloo 2500 Pro from newegg for $16 shipped. It has 2/3 of the clip you requested, is copper and cools my overclocked XP 1700+ very well. It comes with a 4500 rpm 70 mm fan and fit well on my MSI KT3 Ultra2 motherboard. See it here.
Another good option is the Speeze Rock cooler from newegg here. I have this one on my other KT3 Ultra2 and it has the XP1700+ clocked at 2.1 Gig. With the Antec Reference Silver thermal paste, after replacing the stock 2500 rpm fan with an adjustable Enermax fan, it runs around 37 C at idle and rarely goes higher than 42 C under load. For $12 shipped, it is a very good cooler. It only has a single clip, though. For "bargain" CPU coolers, both of these work quite well.
