HTPC components

Anyone know where I can purchase components in Alienware Hangar 18? I figure they are all customized OEM parts but there has to be something comparable on the market? Like a sound card with 1000w amp and sub??? If you have anyhting similar to Hangar 18, can you PM your configuration??? Thanks in advance.

Looks like an amd 690g chipset - you can output audio via optical out to the 1000w SS receiver of your choice.

Yer problem (if it is one) would be if the tuners they offer include cablecard cuz yah ain't gonna get those without an OEM license

Would they really do a 690g chipset (which has an HDMI output) AND include a HD2400 Pro with a DVI to HDMI converter?

This seems over priced to me - even for alienware.

I am a big fan of my HTPC setup. It has an AMD 5200, AMD 690g chipset (for optical and HDMI outputs), 2 GB ram and 400GB storage and that cost me about $400 sans case. It doesn't have any tuners so I can't comment on that. I have no prodlem playing HD DVDs to my TV.

Now this also doesn't include the amp, but if you have a reciever laying around, just use that - its cheaper to buy one too

My biggest complaint? 1080p is just so damn small on a 57" tv. Its near impossible to spell check.

AVS Forums has a very large section on HTPCs. You might want to check that out. The 690g chipset is very popular, esp the gigabyte GA-MA69GM-S2H. Its also where I was able to find the codecs to make my HTPC play HD movies well

I dunno - I thought they may have included it because of the HD-DVD/BluRay player ...

I think my setup is pretty similar.

Core System:
AMD 4600 X2
2GB Gskill DDR2
400 GB Sata II x2
ECS Micro ATX Mobo Nvidia chipset
Sony DVD-RW

HTPC Addons:
HT Omega Striker Sound Card - Features Optical or coax s/pdif out 7.1 surround sound
Sapphire Radeon 3850HD with HDMI out (5.1 integrate surround sound)

I actually took the HT Omega striker out of this computer and put it in my wifes because the Radeon 3850 had 5.1 surround sound built into the HDMI interface. So I didn't need it.

The only other thing I don't have is an HTCP case like this one:

If you can at all wait for a bit, there are going to be some major releases in the integrated video world. 780G, nForce 8200, G45...all are coming out relatively soon, with 780G leading them as far as arrival date - March 5th I believe.
