I have a 650 sqft apartment with a iMac, a laptop. a server. an xbox 360 and a tivo - its close quarters tos ay the least.

the apartment gets extremely dry - this may be a stupid question but would i need a specific humidifier or can I use one at all in my apartment?

also - do they make any silent ones?

thanks

Just leave buckets of water around.

Or set up a sprinkler on your carpet...

Better get a warm-mist humidifier. It evaporates the water instead of atomizing it. My wife has reset our Logitech Harmony remote a few times after shocking the bejezus out of it because our apartment is too dry. We had two humidifiers, and it still wasn't enough for our 750 sqft apartment.

What's the benefit to warm-mist vs atomizer?

If you have junk in your water (calcium, etc) it leaves a fine white dust all over the house. The cool-mist one will basically vibrate little tiny pieces of water into the air. These droplets will carry the calcium and stuff with them. The warm-mist ones send steam into the air so all of the calcium and junk is left in the reservoir.

Ahh, definitely sounds like what I'd need, as my water is as hard as a rock.

Just get a little one... the one I have is silent, or at least it's no louder than my computer.

edit: http://www.kaz.com/kaz/store/p...2ba42c7e530f574ee3add/ is the one I have.

is there ever any issue with mold/bacteria or cleaning?

and it says discontinued

I just have to clean a little tray that comes out of the bottom every once in a while - quick rinse with vinegar is about all it takes.

I didn't see the discontinued part, but this one is great, so see if you can find one from that company.

Yep. I got a cold-mist one and woke up the next day to find white powder all over my bedroom. That was an unpleasant suprise.
