Confidence in the forecast will go up considerably in the next 24 hours. It has to finish making the turn north before there can be any real accuracy in predicting a potential westward turn. The slower it goes the more chance it will kick out east and miss us completely.

and if you aren't familiar with fedex field, people are going to be slipping and falling all over the place. it' got to be the worst field in the nfl.
Ten years ago, Rita came ashore on the Gulf Coast as a Cat 3 storm.
Eleven people died in the storm.
One hundred people died in the evacuation.
Best of luck to all in Joaquin's path...

That's pretty cool!Below is a link for an online Google/GIS map that always shows the latest information about Hurricane Joaquin. If you are told to evacuate then you need to GO! Do not rely on this map to ignore an order to evacuate.
Each time the map opens, the most recent data hosted on federal GIS (Geographical Information System) servers is displayed. This map can display over 20 different GIS data overly layers.
To see the **map legend**, learn how to turn different data layers on/off and get other tips for using the map, click About this map in the upper left corner of the map. Other data layers you can turn on include a layer showing the uncertainty about where the storm might go.
Want to know how often the data is updated? Want to know how to create your own custom map link that is zoomed in on any area? Want to know how to turn geolocation on? Click About this map in the upper left corner of the map.

The map is displayed by Gmap4. I am the developer of this enhanced Google map viewer. This project is a public service and part of my way to pay it forward.

Good discussion at about the 7 minute mark - what it could do, and how sensitive it is to minor track changes in the near future. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xZrztUP2bJo
It might nail the Carolinas, it might blast NJ, or it might miss altogether. Depends on its exact track over the next 12 or so hours, and how it's caught up in the trough running up the coast.
Link says they died in the evacuation, but how did they die? Car crashes?
