Hurricane Proof Computer

With hurricane season upon us, I wrote a little guide on how to hurricane proof your computer.

Please tell me what you think. I'm always trying to improve my writing and help others with their computer problems.

I'd like add one thing . . . (if it was not already mentioned in you guide)

If you are going to leave your PC (for whatever reason you can't take it with you) when a hurricane is comming. Granted you have some warning. Yank the Harddrive. Data is one of your most important property and is hard if not impossible to replace. It takes me about 2 secs to rip into my computer, take the cover off, yank the sata cable and the power cable to remove the harddrive. Surely something that small you can take with you. Everything else is replaceable.

Already got it . I totally agree with you. There is also the risk of having your computer stolen if you home is looted after a hurricane. In the event something like that does happen, you won't need to worry about data theft if you have your hard drive with you.

I agree. That is why I installed some SATA enclosures, so that I could pull the hard drives out quick with no worry. Wonderful things....

I wonder if it would be possible to create a waterproof computer case. You could have pass through ports on both sides, and the door could have rubber flashing.

Sounds like the perfect idea to get a feature in the back page of Maximum PC Might have to add some cushioning on the inside though, 'cause if it were to sit through a hurricane, I seriously doubt it'd be staying in one place

Lol, i thought you meant like, if you put it in one it would survive... That was astupid thought. I doubt you can make a computer that can run after being tossed around in a hurricane... I thought it was a joke.

Use mobile rails with whatever HDDs are available. I use various HDDs for storage, backup or clones. Just pop one in and/or pop in another.

A mobile hard drive rack is a very good idea. I should have mentioned it in the article.
