Hi all,
For those of you who don't know, Asus has an unusual lineup with their 6800-based cards. Apparently this is due to a mix-up in the specifications before the cards were manufactured. One of their current lineup is as follows (it may be named differently in the US, but this is NOT the Gamers Edition which is a plain 6800 GPU):
Asus V9999 GT/TD/P
- 6800-GT GPU (16 pipelines)
- 350MHz core
- 128Mb DDR1 (700MHz)
This card is a hybrid (as far as I know, no other 6800-GT comes with 128Mb memory, and certainly no other 6800-GT comes with DDR1 memory).
Now, the full-blown 6800-GT is out of my price range (I have been waiting impatiently for the 6600-GT AGP, but it could be a while yet until it reaches the shelves). However, this particular card is now just over AU$500 (the cheapest no-name 6800-GT available is AU$650). I'm thinking this could be fairly good value.
Has anyone got this card, or seen a comparitive review of this card? I have heard that the slow memory does tend to cripple the card a bit, but how much? And how much better does this card perform over a plain 6800-based card.
I'm trying to decide whether to spend the money on this card (now), get a vanilla 6800-based card, or wait and get the 6600-GT when it comes out in AGP (current PCI versions are available around the AU$350 mark).
