Today, I ran across a review quote by PC gamer saying these were 'the best gaming headset'. I checked the review sure enough it did, though it only gave them an 80/100.

Everywhere seems to sell them for $100. I noted it and that was that.

At midnight, Amazon started a sale on them for $80 - but only the white and pink color, not the red or 'gun metal' colors.

Somehow, I just don't like a pink set, even though you don't see them while worn.

My oldest son has a set. The microphone stopped working after 6 months. That didn't deter my youngest son from buying a set. Just got it yesterday. Hope it last longer.

While headsets might be a bit easier to just throw on and off, with a desktop setup I really don't see the point. I use a regular desktop condenser microphone, specifically a CAD U37. It isn't anything too fancy but it does the job. This way I can use any headphones I want and not have to worry about the mic quality on a tiny boom mic attached to a plastic headset. The CAD U37 just sits over my monitors and picks up only my voice and not the fans or any other background noises. And the fact I don't have to really touch it (because of the suspension arm mount) means wear is going to be very minimal, unlike a headset that you take on/off every time you get up. Almost all of the headsets I have had the mic was either crap quality, or it started cutting out in 6-12 months because of use.

Don't think i will be going back to a headset anytime soon though. Total cost was $70 for everything, add whatever headphones you want, or use an existing pair you already have.

Got a set of HyperX II's about a week after they came out for a pretty good deal. Really comfortable, great sound and the mic is good according to all reports of who's listening to me.

That's balling. What kind of mount are you using? Is that some kind of filter screen over the front?

Its just a standard suspension arm from amazon. Cost about $12. The shock mount was another maybe $10. the screen is a pop filter for like $5.

You should tell him, that condenser microphones needs phantom power(except the ones which got usb like CAD U37). I just got my condenser akg p170, damn this microphone is sexy as hell -.-
But if you are really into it, buy a condenser microphone XLR instead of USB.

Pop filter which he uses is for breaking air, when he for example say something which starts with a letter P and some other letters. Pizza,Pop etc.

Here is a video, which will explain to you about pop filter:

Sure if you are doing actual recording for youtube or podcasts or you want to live stream, a real XLR setup with an actual audio interface for gain levels and phantom power etc. is going to be better, but that's going to cost $150-300 depending on what you want to get. I spent around $70, and all I use my setup for is gaming and skype calls, I don't need an XLR setup.
