I'm planning to buy one in the near future. Looking at the 3.8 Track edition w/Nav.

I test drove the same car back in october and was thoroughly impressed. Couldn't believe that Hyundai has come so far. The big 3 need to look out, Hyundai isn't the laughing stock that they used to be.

I really doubt a 30K Genesis has the big three worrying much. That is the same price as a Camaro SS. I don't have specifics, but more than 60,000 Camaros were sold in 2009, and only 50,000 Genesis (both coupe AND sedan) were sold. It's a good car, but IMHO not a 30K car by any means.

Word on the street in corporate (I have connections) is that the coupe isnt selling as well as they had planned. In so cal, its heavily losing ground to the mustang (I see like 30 of these a day) and camaro.

I haven't seen more than a handful of Genesis (coupe OR sedan) here in Dallas, although I've seen HEAPS of 370Zs, Camaros, etc, along with eleventy-bazillion G37 coupes.

The Mustang next year is gonna seal the deal. ~$22k for a 307hp V6? ~$30k for a 412hp V8? Who's gonna match that? Particularly when you consider the Mustang isn't as porky as the Camaro or Challenger, or even the M3.

Exactly. They fucked over the camaro by making it 3900lbs. Mustang is around 3500

I've seen maybe 3 in the year they've been out, I see sedans all the time.

In order for Hyundai to gain traction, they would have had to produce something as good or significantly better than the competition for a much lower price, this car fails to do that.

On the Corvette scene - DO NOT get one with the ancient 4spd Auto. In 2006, GM installed the 6spd auto with paddle shift.

I'd also avoid the Z51 package as it makes the suspension really stiff - if you are gonna commute the Corvette is extremely comfortable and has lots of room in the rear hatch.

I still haven't seen a Genesis Coupe on the roads yet, and there is a Hyundai dealership right by where I work and another one on the way home from work. I'd think by random chance I'd at least see someone test driving one.

I am 5'11" without shoes on and I fit in the 350/370Z perfectly. Besides, it's not like Koreans are known for their tall stature.

Average height in South Korea is around 5'8" - 5'9" and growing depending on what chart(s) you look at. Average height in America is around 5'9" - 5'10" also depending on what chart(s) you look at. Japan is around 5'6."

Anyways, car manufacturers keep everything into account, they build for specific markets.

As for the Genesis, it looks like a good deal. Hyundai's reliability is up and they recently surpassed Ford to become the 4th largest automobile manufacturer in the world. Hyundai's also one of the few car manufacturers that actually turned a profit in 2009.

Another rotary, so another fail.

Maybe the new gen will fix some of the atrocious problems that the RX-8 had with the Renesis. That would have been a fantastic car outside of that god-awful motor.

I guess I should clarify. What I meant by "the big 3 need to look out" is that the competition is closing in QUICK! Although they (Hyundai) had a lot of examples to look at, they still got a lot right on the first try.

I have seen only a handful of Genesis coupes on the roads here, and I see hundreds even thousands of cars everyday driving to and from work.

Yeah a 2nd-gen or significantly refreshed Genesis coupe could really be something special. Consider the difference between the older Tiburon and the current one for example, it's like night and day. If the improvements continue, Hyundai is going to be a seriously respected brand.

Someone made a claim that the Nissan was made for midgets...which is just ridiculous.

I made that comment

Agreed. I test drove it and while it was nice the power train warranty is about to expire so i'm not interested.

Yeah that's an exaggeration, although it is pretty cramped in there for larger folks. I tested a 350Z, and while I fit, it was not in a relaxed manner. I'm ~6'4" and usually around 240lbs, so yeah, not a great match for me, though I love the 370z.

Yeah I can imagine. It was very borderline for me, and I felt like I was almost wearing the car rather than driving it. Add a couple inches and some more weight to me, and it would have gone from mildly uncomfortable to legitimately aggravating/claustrophobic.

Agreed. The C6 today i tested was surprisingly roomy even tho i've heard people say the C6 is actually smaller then the C5. Had about 2 inches headroom with the glasstop. I wanted it badly but no powertrain warranty was a deal killer.

Yeah I was gonna say a Vette would be tailor-made for you. I worked for several of the Dallas Cowboys in the '90s making custom PCs and home entertainment setups, and one of the guys was a good 6'7" 300+lbs, and easily fit in a '97 Vette.
