I would rather work here at a kiosk than deal in shady business. Trust me, where I'm from the majority of these types of people are into that kind of business. That's how I make my assumptions. Maybe from where you're from these types of people could "teach me a thing or two," but not where I'm from, sorry.

Again, I'd rather be stuck in this kiosk than be dealing with shady people.

For instance, my wife's parents came to America with nothing. No money, jewelry, whatever. They gave me a $6,000 ring for our wedding that they paid cash for. They don't do anything illegal, they just manage their money better and invest what's left. How much do you invest?

I think they come here with nothing but determination and they have to sink or swim. The ones with the will and the brains see what a great opportunity they have and start businesses and whatnot. They basically have nothing to lose, and they risk it all by coming here and trying to make it. I have a lot of respect for these people.

Also only the more determined and resourceful make it here anyway, so a high percentage will naturally succeed.

it doesn' t mean they weren't say some kind of business or enterprise owner in the country they are from.


when these types come here it's just a matter of transferring some of their bank account over.

My numbers aren't reversed. Education, intelligence, hard work and perseverence will get you a middle class income, it won't make you rich. Getting rich involves a ton of luck.

Leave thier country with lots of extorted funds (switzerland is the 2nd choice for this) I also read in the paper about some vietmanese guy doing this but in the opposite direction. They work here 30 yrs. building up excellent credit then take a 125% on thier house, max out everything CC, retirement accounts to cash, selling everything them moving back to veitman with over 800K and retire.

Here's a tiny clue about how immigrants come here and do well. Hard fvcking work. While you are sitting on your MacDonald's-fed ass posting on AT, that immigrant family is out there peddling their roses, working the deli, studying to be a doctor, or doing all of the three.

..if anything its easier to come to america when you are rich. My 2nd Aunt cant even put together a coherent sentence in English and you know what? She made it big back in Hong Kong and doesn't even care. She can get along just fine without knowing much English.

Ummm...immigrants usually come here with very little, so they work very hard to gain equity. While most Americans go out and buy cars they can barely afford and go drinking every weekend, immigrants work during the day, goto school in the night for extra courses, and work second jobs on the weekend. Then they save up enough to buy a house and work their ass off to pay it off within a short time as possible. Then they buy more property and rent it out. Soon the property will pay itself off via the tenants, and more equity is gained.

Then those immigrants (who are probably citizens now) enjoy their life, while still being money smart.

The American's comment was generalized and I know that is not always the case, but form what I see on these forums and others, is that you guys really spend a LOT of money on things that are not needed. What I've noticed in Canada, is that the Canadians usually enjoy today, without thinking about tomorrow. The immigrants suffer today so they can enjoy tomorrow.

you can't generalize based on 1 (or even a few) observation(s). there are a TON of dirt-poor immigrants where i live, but some of them (or their children) become middle-class (or higher) by WORKING their @sses off.
