That's the trouble with alcohol...it impairs your judgement.
Among other things.

The closest I ever came to drunk driving was after someone I hardly knew managed to make telling jokes at my expense the topic of conversation. Usually I have thick skin, but when you're drunk, well... yeah. Anyway, I had the brilliant idea I'd leave, but it occured to me about halfway from the front door to the car that driving while drunk was a really bad idea. I decided to sleep in the car instead. So I'm at the car door, trying to open it, when I suddenly said to myself, "self, you can't actually remember how to use a key and a door lock right now." I was surprised to discover I was right; I literally was so drunk I couldn't remember how to operate keys. Keys.

I wandered back inside and passed out on the couch. On the guy's hat. Specifically, with my ass on it.

Please elaborate...

we were drunk at a climbing gym. I decided to do a "tarzan" move off a 10 foot wall with a long rope. It's hard to explain, but the end result was a broken heel. I had about 8 to 10 fractures in my heel, had surgery 3 days after new years. a plate, 6 screws and 8 months later, it still hurts when i walk. the doc said i'll probably get about 90% back if i'm lucky. so rock climbing is probably not an option for me. I just hope i can still board, another 2 months and the snow will be here.

Talk about a true patriot. You are officially the only person left that still uses the term "freedom fries".

Watch out, I am going to to get some "FRENCH" dip for dinner. MUAHAHAH

I'm not going to rag on you because I've been so drunk/stoned when I drove it's a fvcking miracle no one was killed, maimed & I could have gotten my ass fried in court if caught sans accident. Of course, that was back when drinking & driving was nearly an Olympic sport.

Nothing like driving with one eye closed so you didn't see double.

Life teaches some hard lessons, and I suspect the judge is going to hand you your ass in court.

I still have no idea if they are going to press charges, I assume they are. I was kind of scared going to the police department so I could get my phone out mf my car. I was waiting for a couple guys to come out and handcuff me but they never did.

believe me guys, I know I messed up bad. I am greatful that no one else got hurt and that the only damage I did was to myself and my car. The thing I have to do is to move on and learn from my mistake.

Most of us have drank and drove at some points in our lives. You're still standing; good. No one else got hurt; good. Your car is totalled and if the truth comes out your insurance will double; bad. Well, 2 out of 3 ain't bad.

I am really glad you are ok. I sincerely hope that you have learned a lesson from this. Although in my experience, some people never learn. I really hope that is not the case for you. I hope you learn your lesson and start thinking about your son and how much he needs you.
The really sad thing is most times when there is an accident involving drinking and driving, the drunk one is usually the one that walks away just fine. Two years ago in my town, a man was drinking and driving with his 3 sons in the car, he was in an accident, he walked away without a scratch and all three of his sons were killed. That man just got sentenced to life in jail. This was not his first incident involving drinking and driving either. He didn't learn his lesson, and his sons paid the price. I just sincerely hope you learn from this. I hope you have a quick recovery, and glad to hear you're ok. Just please don't make that mistake again, next when you drink, and yes you probably will, do it in the comfort of your home, have a designated driver, or call a cab, anything but getting behind the wheel. Now go hug your son, and be thankful that you are able to.
