The seafood thing reminds me of the prank that ended the senior prank traditon at the high school where I taught a few years ago.

Some seniors put fresh fish they caught in the ceiling tiles of the girls' locker room. When the cause of the stench was located a few days later, the janitor trying to clean the mess up was covered in the rotting carcasses when the wet ceiling tiles gave way. She developed a serious respiratory infection from the bacteria that landed her in the hospitial for over a week. The boys who did the prank had done a lot of bragging about it and it was pretty easy for the administration to find out who they were. They were arrested and charged with vandalism, expelled from school, and failed to graduate. Those boys didn't mean to hurt anyone, but they did, and that's the problem with allowing these sorts of things to go on. Eventually, someone is going to do something that damages property or hurts someone and if the administration just lets it slide they should be held accountable for their negligence when it does.

What they did to the OP's wife wasn't funny, it was just plain mean. A lot of you may think that the janitors will come in and clean everything up, but if the administration isn't upset about what happened, she won't get any extra help in cleaning up. She especially won't get any help in cleaning up the mess in her desk and any cabinets or shelves where she kept her things. And if her workday is anything like most teachers' she won't have time during the day to clean things up and will have to do it on her own time after work. I know that I keep a lot of things in my desk and cabinets that I paid for out of my own pocket, and again, if the administration doesn't see it as their problem, she won't get any reimbursement or help in paying to replace them and that can run into the hundreds of dollars if she's been teaching for a while. Then there are the things that she spent hours at home working on to use in the classroom like notes and research, enrichment materials she's collected over the years, tests, quizzes, lesson plans, questionaires, study materials, etc. The results of all that time and effort gone. Then there are all the simple instructional aids and office supplies that you use in the classroom that the school only supplies you with in minimal amounts that they won't replace now because she's used her allotted funds. What's she going to do, clean every individual pencil, pen, ruler, stapler, paper clip, piece of chalk, hole punch, etc.?

Not to mention the stink that she and her students are going to have to put up with for the rest of the school year. Talk about disruption, just think how difficult it's going to be to teach in a clasroom with the constant legitimate complaints from the students and from those milking it to try to keep from doing their work or paying attention.

I think she has a right to be upset and if the administration doesn't want to do anything about it she should hit them where it hurts and demand a professional cleaning crew be brought in because of the potential for illnesses that she and her students have been subjected to. She should also do an inventory of the cost to replace every item that she has lost or won't be able to use any more and present them or the central office with a bill for it all. Maybe they'll decide then that this sort of thing isn't funny anymore.

Those posts would make sense if they'd filled her room with balloons, or packing peanuts, or something.

Seafood is bad.

I love threads like these because they really add some color to which members are spoiled jerkoff high school kids and which are rational people with a sense of humor. The Autotrader thing is funny, the numbered goats thing is funny, but what happened to the OP's wife is a work of malevolence, not humor. To orchestrate a proper prank you have to be clever, not just a dick. Chalk it up as more evidence that money can't buy class.

Quite true, IMO. At my high-school last year a few seniors cut down all of the trees that were in the courtyard with chainsaws in the night. A few of the trees were memorials of people that died and others were donated and planted by people who go to the school. The police got involved and they got arrested and punished. Really nice guys...

holy s.
did they build an effigy of the teacher in question and burn it on the school lawn?

most pranks should have a sort of temporary status about them...not a sort of horrifying display of disrespect to a deceased human.

Hmmm, I need to come up with a good senior prank come to think of it. This one was weak.

Did you graduate with me? Because that's what my senior class did too. It was one of the most horrifying things when they announced it the next day...

It wasn't at the end of the year though. We do our "pranks" on Senior Day... the friday of homecoming week.

QFT. Destroying someone's personal property isn't funny, it's criminal.

I agree, pranks should be fun, not pain in the ass like this one.
I remember three best ones we had in our HS.
First one was when seniors filled one of the class rooms with thousands of baloons from top to bottom, so you can just barely walk in it.
Second one was a year later, when some guys wrapped the entire class room in foil. They wrapped EVERYTHING, including stuff like pens, books and such.
And my favorite prank was when graduating seniors put wallpapers of a beach seaside on the walls, replaced all desks and chairs with the beach chairs, tables and beach umbrellas.

I agree this prank was not funny at all because it was destructive. Ultimately if the administration does not want to get the police involved, she should just demand a new room and not have to teach in the damaged room anymore. Hopefully she can salvage some of her teaching materials and just move on. She'll never have to deal with those kids again.

It's just idiots defending their fellow idiots. Flock mentallity. But instead of a greater intellect, somehow all the morons get together and somehow manage to lower their entire IQ pool.

This is the exact advice not to listen to.
