It's just a regular mid-tower. It's a couple inches bigger than some gaming cases but not by much. That power distribution strip helps some, but I've always been big on wire management.

Also this sounds like someone who should have never opened their PC case.

Oh and topic poster: Black wires may just be Grounds and that might also explain the inconsistency of it starting up or whatever. Just a thought. Can't really tell from the pics wtf.

That's what I'm thinking. If not properly grounded, the card may not be getting proper voltage.
So, I was wondering if that black wire belongs in the PCI-e plug that feeds the GT.

Ok i'm at work now. I'll try to answer all the questions.

1. I have replaced numerous video cards in the past on my other computers. My 4 year old computer has a x1650 512 on it that i put in a little while ago. That has never been a problem, they're pretty easy to replace. I dont do anymore than that. Maybe upgrade ram and that's it.

2. That card is just so huge for the case, but it still fit, i had to maneuver it between the wires, and that's how the small black wires got broken, i don't know what grounding problem is. Someone please explain to me what i should look for.

3. The small black wires go to the small circuit board on the back right above the fan, there is no ports on the back of it, it just clips on inside the case above the fan, and the wires go to the top front of the computer where there's multimedia card ports and the wireless antennae.

4. How do i replace the power supply, can i just get an external one and plug the card into it.

5. I could pop off the entire circuit board as you see in the pic http://i29.photobucket.com/alb...omansamurai/photo6.jpg , remove the wires at the other soldering points and pretend it was never there.

6. I haven't tried replacing the other card yet. I have a little brother that lives with me and my entire day is kind of based around his school, homework, TKD classes we take and other things to keep him from TV and games as much as possible (his eyesight is a bit bad so i'm keeping him active in other things), i'll try to do it later tonight after our TKD classes.

7. I didn't think i'd have this much problem with the computer that i paid 1200 for. Somehow i expected it to be fine just like all the other computers i had. Problem is my old one max upgrade for ram was 2gb, i couldnt' get a pci card in it, only had the agp slot, and HDD was only 159 GB and nearly full. So i opted to upgrade and give my lil' one the old computer.

8. The black wire does not go to the power plug, the power plug for the 8800 GT is a 6 prong one that connects via 3 prong one to the power supply plug?..if that makes sense.

9. Pez, you're not being an ass at all. I appreciate everyone trying to help me, I realize i got myself into this situation, so all criticism is deserved. It's my fault and you guys are outstanding for trying to help me. The return should really be my final option because that's gonna be really tough to accomplish i gather.

Thank you for your help guys. So far that PC cost me 1500 (with the vid card) so i'd really like to save it. And i'm in Chicago, or near, right outside.

Ps. It works for awhile, like i said. Then it shuts off the monitor, could be 2 min, could be 15 or 20 min after i started it. And in some cases doesn't want to start.

If you can somehow manage it, better clearer pics are needed. Take as many pics as you can. Most likely a few of them will give us a clue what's going on. That circuit board that sits right above the fan has nothing on the other side of it? Or is it like an audio jack extension from the onboard sound? I'd really like to see better pics. I know you have only a camera phone, but do you know anyone with a digital camera that you could use?

I'll see if i can stop by and pick up a camera, mine is not working. And no, the circuit board has nothing on the back, it clips onto the case right above the fan, it just has like a grove where it clips on, no jacks or holes on the back or in the case for anything to attach to it.

slightly off topic but if you have bought the PC in the past 30 day from best buy then go buy the extended warrenty. once you do that put the original VC back in and return it. thats what the warranty is for. i do that with all my consoles and that way if anything happens I take it in and get a new one. usually its little to 0 hassle. at this point in time its starting to sound like a good idea.or at least do it so if you end up having to return it its a better chance.

I dont know how the BB out there are but if they are like the ones near me here in cali there is no way they are going to let you return that without the warranty.

I wonder if you could also get a bigger case and transfer all the parts to that. It may give you some experience "putting together" a pc as well as give you more airflow throughout plus its just the added bonus of a few extra inches of working room. is your VC pressed up against your drives?

Anyway lets wait and see some pics where we can tell things apart.

MonKENy -- I picked the pc up 2 days ago, i'll stop by and pick up the warranty maybe tomorrow. As far as getting a bigger case and transferring things....that would be a last resort kind of thing!

and probably unnecessary as well now that I think about it. it was a stupid suggestion lol. id only go that route if you end up having heating issues or something or just want to try playing with components and seeing how to structure a pc with out having to worry about software and compatibility issues.

Ok, I have to leave for TKD right now, but I got a few things done.

1. I replaced the cards back, and we'll see how long it runs with the 8400. With the 8800 I couldn't keep it running for more than 2-3 minutes today.

Before i just had it hanging down in the machine...think that might have been a problem if the board was touching the metal or something?

well if its working with the old card in then you can probably guess what the problem is....Its either that the new card needs more power or that the new card itself is no good. I still have no idea what that circuit board is that is hanging there.

you sure its not the wireless lan? thats the only thing I can think of it might be.

Monkey, i agree, either not enough power or overheating......though 5min to overheating does sound x-stream, maybe a faulty card....

I have been thru black screen before on a x1950pro, power issue and this just recks of it....

OMG I can barely tell what is what in those pics because they are small for my 1680X1050 resolution and the fact the rats nest of cabling is so bad. Also is it just me of does that PSU look taller than usual?

Also usually there is a wattage listing on the giant sticker on your PSU to see if it can even support a 8800GT.

Also the best buy link says there is a remote control for that PC, so I'm think it might be a RF sensor.

Have you tried to see if that works?

ok i know what your problems are.

1) The chip you broke the wires to is your multi media card. they just put it there and run the wires up to the top of the case. Its a stupid setup and if I were you id pull all your cords out and try to tidy them up. Im not sure if its ALL the media ports but its at least some of them.

B) Your power supply is a 300 or 350 watt (I forget already lol) you need at LEAST a 425 watt supply to run the 8800 GT OC 512. so that explains why your pc doesnt want to work. your only solution is keeping the card it came with or replacing the PS. and no i dont think you can use an outside PS. dont worry we can help you replace the PS its not really that hard at all.

I think the rf sensor is on the card itself. But it may be that except that wouldnt explain why that chip was plugged into the sata port on the MB. plus that chip is on the back of the pc.

P.s again, it seems i resoldered the wires good because i was able to use the multimedia reader for the MS Pro Duo I feel very good about that accomplishment btw.
