I can't format - some message :(

Hey all,
Once I start my computer it loads up (windows xp) and while loading in dos it comes up saying that there is a file missing. It said to put the XP disk in and it will TRY and repair it. It can not repair the file, so what do you believe I am able to do to be able to format the computer??? It won't let me format, I can't get to the screen to format. I changed the loading and put the cd rom to load first so it could read the xp disk but no luck.....

When u say "no luck", do u mean that the CD wouldn't even boot or that it won't let you repair the file?

If its the 2nd, then it may be a HD problem.

Is there no way to load it in safe mode?

To get XP to boot do the following...you will need to find a computer with the same operating system to build the floppy.

1. Put a blank floppy in A drive
2. Select start-all programs-accessories-command promt
3. Type in format a: and press enter
4. When asked if you want to format another disk, press N then enter
5. Type in the following commands, pressing enter after each one
xcopy c:\boot.ini a: /h
xcopy c:\ntdetect.com a: /h
xcopy c:\ntdr a: /h
6. Exit and press enter to close the window
7. Start the computer with the floppy in place

A possible fix would be to launch the comand prompt and type in xcopy a:*.* c:\ /h then press enter. Hopefully this will work...
